Did Rob Font's TDD look troubling?

He got taken down and controlled way too early imo. Marlon gassed and Font got up.

The troubling part is Marlon isn't known for his takedowns. With great grapplers in the division like Edgar, Sterling, Rivera and others, Fonts road to the top is looking rather dark no?

Awesome finish tho.

I think Marlon just surprised him. Font probably expected a kickboxing match and not to be rassled. Great fight though. Gotta love Font, the guy always comes to finish you

Font overextended on a jab when he was trying to find his range early in the fight.

When he got back to his feet, his jab won him the fight.

He adjusted from a big mistake and got a finish within the same round. I don't see a problem.

That was more reactive after Marlon got hit hard early. He didn't expect it because Marlon never displayed take down attempts in his previous fights and usually tries to have a kickboxing match. He's a black belt in BJJ so he's always had the skillset to do it, he just chose to fight standing.

Him being able to control Font for a short time as Marlon is a BJJ blackbelt doesn't mean Font isn't capable on the ground. Watch submission grappling matches with high level black belts, they also get controlled on the ground while looking for an escape/reversal/submission. Being on your back is mostly looked at as you are losing in mma, but grapplers are comfortable off their back so some don't rush to scramble or get up right away and they themselves try to control or minimize damage on the ground off their back. Then look to get up/reverse/submission when an opportunity presents it self.

Yeah, I don't think I saw anything to be worried about either. Hope Font continues rising up the ranks and fights more regularly

Marlon didn't gas no. And also no, the takedown was extremely well executed and super fast. Very hard to defend against something like that.

All over a 2/10 thread at best.

I watch every UFC fight. Except for 90% of WMMA. If I hear a WMMA fight was good I’ll go back and watch that too.
With WMMA there are only a few I care to watch live - Nunes, Joanna, Rose and Ronda when she fought

Since when is Jimmie Riveria a grappler? He's a defensive oriented a
MT stylist.
