We know Khamzat is pretty much unproven in the UFC so far based on who he's beat but when the betting odds against Edwards came out he was a -175 favorite. My question is if the fans think Khamzat wins does that make the fight justified? Curious what other people's thoughts about this are.

All i know is that people who are saying that he ducked Magny don't seem to understand that he's gonna fight a guy who is better everywhere than Neil. There is no ducking if you skip a fight to take on even better competition.

That's like saying that a heavyweight would duck Tybura to fight Ngannou lol

Is the Edwards fight 100% justified based on who Khamzat has beaten so far in the UFC ? Ranking wise no but sometimes you know you may have something special in your hands. Dana seem to think so too.

Was him vs Edwards a justified match up if he beats Edwards? I would say so, yeah.
I'm talking about the fight being made in the first place. A jump from unranked to fighting the #3 WW is almost unheard of. Since Khamzat is the favorite though does that justify the fight being made?

The way hes destroyed the guys he has fought in the ufc so far shows that he is at a much higher level than the lowest level ufc guys.

I'm kind of going with Chael on this one. UFC smelled the hype and wanted Zat in a main event and a main event is a main event. It's a big opportunity. Everyone should be striving for it. Meanwhile, Leon hasn't fought in a very long time and so few people care about him. So it's really the perfect give and take - Leon wants shine, Zat wants a top spot - they both have something each other could use, if they win.

Leon beating Zat does more to his PR than beating Wonderboy, Chiesa or Geoff Neal.

I 100% agree with you but some posters feel like Khamzat should be fighting people that are below Edwards and climb the rankings. But what's the point of that if the majority thinks Khamzat will beat the #3 WW? Hence does the fight being made become justified? Thank you for your response.

Consider also that rankings were originally created for the FOX TV show, just to have them something to talk about. And they were never legit.

Recently we got a peek into who are the people making them and it's hot garbage: https://forums.sherdog.com/threads/presenting-the-people-who-vote-on-the-ufcs-rankings.4149746/

So there's no point in putting too much stock into them. UFC themselves don't care, it's just a promo tool for when it's useful and irrelevant when it's a nuisance.

Might not be a good fight for Edwards, but it's a win/win for Zat. Will show where he's really at in all of this.

jon jones got thrown to the wolves early and often, if and its a big if khamzat passes this test he just might live up to the hype

Khamzat First Round TKO. Easy match up for him.

The reason for the fight was, khamzat beating ufc guys in less than one round.
the ufc would lose face if that continued, they need to get more competitive fight.
