(Starring Dana as Julius Caesar)

To sum it up, he has guys fight to the death and for cheap to prove them selves to get a roster spot in the UFC.

If you go for takedowns and win a decision like this poor fella in the gif above, then your chances are slim. You must fight to kill your opponent.

I see how you could compare the two, but its not a fight to the death. Also they are there by choice, where as a lot of gladiators were not.

As much as people want to trash it, it's a tremendous opportunity for the fighters to perform and get a UFC contract. It's a million times better than a fight on the regional scene (which is where these guys would be fighting otherwise) where the pay is similar (or less) but there's no eyeballs on you and all you can do is hope and pray that someone will notice you and offer you a chance. If you make it to Contender Series, the path is pretty clear- Put on a good performance and you're probably gonna get yourself a UFC contract. Not so bad for an aspiring MMA fighter.

I think your average mma event pre covid where thousands of civilians gathered to watch two people beat the tar out of one another for their entertainment is more apropos.

That’s weird I don’t see bears fighting elephants or Lions fighting buffalos.

Yeah ofc, guys who loose gets thrown into lion pits and winners can kiss Caesar’s (Danas ) hand. It’s great opportunity for guys with limited skillset , but who can throw down get into big leagues, overall positive thing
