What would you think of an MMA world tournament?

Kind of like wrestling.

annual tournament - regardless of organization.

there would need to be rules in place to protect from injuries that may render someone unable to compete for several weeks. Maybe no joint manipulation, shorten the time of the matches to maybe 6-8 mins total.

I hate wondering how such and such fighter would do against so and so in another organization.

thoughts?

I mean yeah, it would be cool. But it's just fantasy, there's zero chance of something like that happening. The best we can hope for is it becoming an Olympic sport some day, however if that were the case it would be extremely unlikely that the UFC would allow fighters to go. It would look more like Olympic boxing with just amateurs.

I would be stoked for more of any sort of tournament. One night tournaments were the best. Old school guys like Igor Vovchanchyn were built different. I think Igor won 3 no-rules tournaments in like 30 days once in 96.

The UFC won't even hold a tournament within their own company and you think a world tournament including their competitors' talent will happen?? Zero point even thinking about this. Beyond fantasy

This. A tournament means the UFC gives up its control over match-making, and they obviously don't like doing that. Plus the last big MMA tournament, Strikeforce HW GP, was a mess, took way longer than expect and was won by an alternate that nobody knew at the time.

I doubt the UFC would participate, but it would be cool, regardless. It would actually be a great way to build up many international fighters.

Would be co0l, but seems highly unlikely. They wont even do cross-promotion, unfortunately. Still waitin! I'd settle for some more freak show fights within the UFC, though. Feed Jake Paul to Henry Cejudo. The buildup would be epic and the much bigger guy gets destroyed. And bullies everywhere would be in shock.

That was a long time ago

Name a non ufc champ you think would beat his ufc counterpart

Dana's ego was crushed once. He won't ever risk it again.

I believe there are quite a few that have a very good chance.

Here's a better question for you though. Name a non-UFC champ whose chance of winning is so low that Dana would believe it's worth the risk.

The fans obviously love it, but the UFC has everything to lose, so it would never happen. All the other orgs would probably join.

I would much rather see this in boxing. Not only is equally (if not more) unlikely in MMA. It's not even as interesting since most of the best(and almost all the championship level) fighters are under one roof already.

PRIDE did it back in the day with their Grand Prix tournaments. Dana sent over Chuck Liddell to compete in one of them.

Dana was a commentator during the fight where Rampage demolished him.
