I was so sorry seing him get beat like that.

dont know why but he was not himself, his looks changed and he looked like a washed up fighter.

I was thinking all the time that Tony is the guy to beat Khabib but as Khabib aslo said, he took too much demage from Justin and he will never be the same again.
seems like he doesnt want it anymore, he should realy consider to retire

felt realy bad to see a great fighter ending like this

i dont disagree
felt a lot like watching the fall of a hero/legend

imo had he tapped in the 1st, this convo and feeling doesn't happen. we chalk it up as another aloe vera sub and move on.

Disagree about that last part.. he was getting dominated before that. That was just the icing, not like he just got caught randomly.

yes, he definitely exceeded his date of expiry!

the guy will get 37 in less than 2 months and the Justin fight took not only his momentum but he really received an epic beatdown which put the nail on the coffin of his career, unfortunately.

I think Tony from beginning of 2019 in between the Pettis and Cerone fight, when he just turned 35, was the last version of him where he could have gave Kabib a run for his money. I dont claim he would have won but Im pretty sure this version of Tony would have looked much better against Beb than Dustin and Justin did, in striking and on the ground.

Tony from yesterday was obviously not the one from nearly 2 years ago, he was slower, less precise, less aggressive and lacked all the attitudes which he usually had, just remember the crazy Pettis fight, did this guy yesterday looked like the one who fought Pettis?

Aside from the RDA fight, almost all of Tony’s fights consist of him taking a beating

From 2015 to 2019 he only fought once a year

His last 2 wins were Cowboy and Pettis who are essentially in the same situation Tony is in when it comes to mileage

before that he was getting full mounted by Kevin Lee until staph Lee gassed out

Tony has been gone a while, all Tony fans knew this deep down. The only hope was that Khabib vs Tony would happen because how much Tony deserved it. Ultimately we know it would be a mauling

I think the problem is that you considered him to be a great fighter. He had a great run - sure - but people seem to overlook how many times he was put in a bad spot by mediocre fighters during that run. A fighter like Tony can only overperform for so long.

Agreed, Tony's done.

Greatest to ever do it, and not get gold.
<WellThere>

I agree with this. The Tony that was in there last night didn’t seem like the same guy. Didn’t have that same chip on his shoulder.

His training methods alone probably took three years off his career..

Outside of Lando, what “mediocre” fighter put Tony in a bad spot??

Tony VS Lee is one of those fights which most people remember wrong, like the casuals summary is that Lee beat Tony pretty bad, took him down, mounted him, etc until he gassed out and lost...

however, if you go and rewatch the fight you will see that Lee took him down once in the first, mounted him for like 25 seconds or less, and did no real damage, he managed to hit him a few times, most on the back of the head. Tony had no cuts or bruises on his face when walking back to the corner, except from the eyepoke from the middle of the first.

in the 2nd he didnt took Tony down but Tony overtook the fight pretty easily and in the third used a takedown attempt of Lee, pulled guard and subbed Lee very easily.

All Lee did was take Tony down once in the first and mount him for 20 seconds, thats it, and yet most people remember it like Lee beat Tony for 2 rounds before gassing out....

He looked like a 50 year old version of Randy Couture

This is the aspect that people were really drawn to. Every fight was an inspiration; him coming back from getting dropped. Guys making mistakes and him pulling out hail mary subs, or sweeps when his opponent gasses, etc...

In kind of an odd way, it gives people hope that they can overcome adversity, and whatnot.
