Dana said that, because he was endorsing Trump for president.
It seems like a bit of an exaggeration. Early 2000's Trump helped the UFC by offering them an event venue, but he also directly supported UFC competitor Affliction, and supposedly bought equity in the rival promotion. Trump even suggested that Affliction would take over the UFC.

In all seriousness, Jeff Blatnick did a lot to help legitimise the sport in the early days. Having a gold medal Olympian on board fighting for the sport during the early days when it was seen as human cockfighting was invaluable.

You'd have to put Art Davie on that list for sure, and I know Rorion was a fighter but his contribution outside the cage was important as well.
