Would Romero still be in the UFC if he'd declined to be a last minute replacement?

Romero filled in at the last minute for a fight. He lost it, and now he's cut. He didn't have to do that. He could have waited and would have been matched up with someone like Jack Hermannsson. He wins that fight, and he's still in the UFC.

I think this sends a message like when Dana used to cut LNPers. Don't risk LNP if you don't want to be cut. Now, you should not risk losing at all if you don't want to be cut.

Will fighters in the future stop accepting last minute replacement fights because of this?

Honestly, Yoel sat on his ass way too much. Though it is strange he got cut seeing his pay wasn't massive for his moderate star status, he should've been way more active.

That fight was before Covid so my memory is off a bit. By last minute, what exactly do you mean?

they’ve done it before at this point I’m surprised fighters who accept on short notice don’t make it part of the deal that if they lose it won’t be their last ufc fight

I don't get why you even cut a guy for losing to elite opposition. I mean do you not think that guy is capable of winning if you give him fights against lower ranked opposition? Obviously he would. I think Dana just doesn't like Yoel for some reason. Why does he let guys like Shogun and Bj stick around for so long who are not only losing but getting their asses kicked and look like they shouldn't even be there?

Imo he turned downed fights and demanded a Israel re-match. (He felt entitled) Yoel strikes me as a very hard to deal with guy when it comes to negotiations.

Imo he will get more $$$$$ elsewhere.

Romero would still be in the ufc if he didn't make 350,000 a fight. It's that simple.
