In fact, Thompson reckons McGregor smokes the Top10 because none of them can take him down, excluding possibly Chandler. Mendez said he sees this rematch going the same way as the first fight, maybe a slightly tougher.

Anyone else surprised by these big statements? McGregor certainly seems to be putting the work in; hell, his physique almost looks like he's juicing, but still. I do wonder how Dustin's confidence will hold up if he gets out-manoeuvred early but I dont expect him to get smoked like last time.

We shall see, I guess

I actually think Tony has the best chance to beat Conor. He did take a beating against Gaethje, but Conor wouldn't be able to fight 5 rounds with that intensity and Tony has insane cardio and chin

I’m not as convinced about his chin and conor will be testing it in a different way than Justin could

that’s a fight I hope to see

To be fair Dustin was doing good in that first fight before the finish, he may have outlanded Conor if I remember? Mentally he was very weak in that fight. Taking nothing away from Conor, but it wasn't a one sided dismantling like the Eddie fight, it was competitive until the early ko, and would be interesting to see the longer it went on. Dustin is absolutely in this fight

Tony has been getting hurt and dropped in his recent fights, a shot from Conor would put him away

I disagree. I think people are too enamored by Conor's past performances and don't give Distin a fair shot. The first round is gonna be an issue since he starts slow and Conor always empties the clip. But after that Dustin's pace and power are going to be a huge advantage

Yes but he has insane recovery, just like Diaz and Masvidal. I do agree he got hurt badly in the last round but that was after nearly 5 rounds of beating and Conors shots don't sting much after 2 rounds

Tony is also slow, aging, battered within an inch of his life in his last fight. El Cucuy is a zombie demon inside that cage but he got battered so hard in his last fight, Gaethje had Tony’s brain shut down and his body shivering from damage.

It would be a different story two years ago but rjght now, McGregor will KO him inside 2 rounds.

I love how everyone still talks about Conor like the guy hasn’t been taking prime competitive years off partying and is essentially fighting part time.
Meanwhile Dustin is getting no respect whatsoever for putting in nothing but work in these last few years. Geez, maybe he needs to punch an old guy or two to get some love.

It's not that surprising if you realize LW has a lot of decent stand up fighters, but zero outstanding grapplers now. Since Conor is the best boxer of the top 10, I agree with them. Only dangerous match up is Chandler or maybe Tony.

To be honest, LW isn't THAT good anymore. It has great names and exciting fighters, but Bantamweight for instance is so much more diverse

Poirier, Aldo and Eddie had good chins going into the Conor fight and look how those played out.

The people who act like Nate @%!!$ Diaz didn't beat the dogshit out of Conor and tap him out in the second round.

Nate is arguably the worst MMA adapted wrestler of his entire generation of lightweights. He took Conor down in both of their fights.

Chad Mendes had no camp and was CARTOONISHLY smaller then Conor. He took him down and held him down for minutes.

There is absolutely no evidence Conor can routinely beat top 10 ranked lightweights.

He can probably beat Poirer if he fights emotionally like last time and that is one of the best style matchups for him in the top 10.

Yeah the amount of time-off he's taken makes me uneasy about picking him but he does seem to have spent a good deal of that time training. If casual glances at his social media over that period are anything to go by then he's been training pretty consistently for the past 18 months, it would appear.

Aldo was hilariously undersized to fight Conor and has now made 135lbs with zero problems twice (losing both times.)

Max also smashed Aldo to bits. Guys will not be on top forever.

Eddie has a good chin but he's known for taking big shots and hanging in there. Look at his UFC run up to the Conor fight - he got dropped like a sack of potatoes by Melendez, closed his whole eye up. Pettis also beat the brakes off him.

Meh, McGregor beat the crap out of Nate, lets be honest. He gassed out the first time but I rewatched their 2nd fight during this pandemic and was shocked at how clear a winner he was. Was genuinely hilarious when McGregor smacked him around for 2 rounds, knocking him down thrice, & then after a 45 second rally at the end of the round Goldberg asked "1-1"?.

Also, Alvarez didnt manage to take him down.

He fought & stuffed takedowns from Khabib better than the rest so is quite clearly a far better wrestler/grappler now than he was in 2014.

okay, and Tony just got demolished by Gaethje who hits hard as hell but isnt anywhere as good as a boxer as Conor, which is Tonys kryptonite. Like you just said, guys will not be on top forever. Tony is 37 now and coming off a brutal beating.

It's wild how people don't realize that Conor is completely unproven as a LW. He has stretched that Alvarez win to the absolute limit.
