Is it a “Duck” or are you just protecting what you “worked” for

Hypothetical question but I want your honest opinion on what you would do

If you were a “UFC” fighter and put in 10+ Years of blood sweat and tears, had your ups had your downs, and now you’ve worked your way to a #3 ranking. Would you happily accept yourself to be strong armed into a fight with a killer who has the resume of not even a top 30 guy in your division.

I personally wouldn’t be okay with that as a fighter. I can see wanting your #3 ranked guy to fight a top 10 guy, maybe 10-15. But this is fucked to me. What’re your thoughts ?

Rankings are fake. They were made for a TV show, when UFC went on FOX, and based on opinions from journalists who, apparently, don't even exist.

So, as long as I was getting paid and moving forward - I wouldn't care about this. Ultimately, this is an attention based sport and beating Zat brings me more attention than some TOP 5 like Burns who casuals don't know.

I have no idea what this means anymore.. the official rankings messed everything up.

Does it come with a belt? No? Nothing to protect there, even interim titles can be stripped before getting your shot at the title, being #3 means nothing if people dont care about you as a fighter, just like Edwards.

When you put it like this, I can see it. But realistically Khamzat would get a shot at the title if he wins. Leon would probably have to fight somebody else for a shot.

I don't care about Edwards, but there's no way he got infected on purpose just to "duck" Khamzat, who is his best option to get back on track for a title shot.
I’m not saying he ducked him, I think that’s a stupid thing to say he got COVID on purpose. I just used this situation to see if anybody would encourage not accepting a fight against a guy who’s a killer who also fights a weight class above you when he wants, and isn’t in the top 30

if it struts like a duck, swims like a duck and quacks like a duck, it ought to be a duck.

unless it's a duckling.

It’s the same thing...

The problem I have with it is that, as a competitor, you shouldn’t be able to pick and choose your opponents...

If someone has earned their spot in the ring opposite you, you give them what they deserve.

Leon hasn't fought in almost a year and a half. He was headlining a card. He has a chance to take Khamzat's hype. By the way Khamzat is ranked #15 so if you are talking about Leon your stats are a little off. Magny is ranked #9 and he's begging for the fight on short notice. It can't be too bad of an opportunity.

Very few fighters will go there entire career without even an accusation of ducking.

However: Vitor fought EVERYONE......not ducks here

Israel seems motivated to do so also

Edwards said he's guaranteed a titleshot with a win over Chimaev. So i'd take it. It's essentially a number one contenders bout.

That’s an appalling ranking lol if he’s #15 WW I’m in the top 50 of heavyweights

If fighters actually listened to these internet dweebs they’d be dead broke and living in an alley somewhere.
