Psych! She claims she does not lift weights.

As in, never in her life. According to her, the only strength equipment she might use is a resistance band for punching, sometimes.

Or hold rocks in her hand if she is shadowboxing outdoors (LOL).

Do you believe her? Everyone comments on her physique and how strong she is for her division.

Yet she is saying she never touches a weight and does no dedicated strength work.

It is the eternal debate. How important is weight lifting to martial arts and combat sports?

It's believable I honestly wonder if lifting is even that helpful for mma. The greatest boxers of all time never really lifted weights, other than Evander who was on all kinds of peds. It's only recently that you're starting to see more boxers get into lifting and the quality seems to be going down rather than up

I believe her, her sister Antonina does the exact same routine and looks nothing like Valentina. Valentina's strength is all genetic, born athlete.

Adama Traore doesn't lift weights and is jacked. There's other ways of strength training like machines, resistance bands etc

Muscles don't fight, muscles lift weights. Strength, reach, etc...matters, when all else are equal. Otherwise, skills pay the bills.

She does not use machines, she dedicates no time to strength training, according to her.

It is difficult for me to accept. Look at her lats, there are women in the gym doing chin ups and lat pulldowns and barbell rows for years... who wish they had lats like Valentina.

Push ups, dips, pull ups, etc.
Those actually do wonders for a body. I wonder if she does that type of stuff in place of weights?

She does not. To hear her tell it, she does no additional strength and conditioning. All of her training is martial arts.

It depends. Boxers historically never lifted and are still pretty much ignoring weights. Wrestlers on the other hand always lifted heavy.

Lifting is part of MMA training and very important. Whoever claims the opposite is a clueless cuck.

Don't see why she would be deceitful so I'm good with it.

It's believable. Carlos Newton claimed to only do body weight exercises, such as push ups and pull ups. No iron. Dude was shredded.

Some people just have the right genetics, and as long as they eat well and train athletically, they'll be ripped.

Some athletes are full of shit. GSP has claimed several times that he doesn't lift weights while there is plenty footage of him lifting weights. I think it might just be lost in translation where they mean they don't lift heavy weights like a bodybuilder.

I'm thinking Valentina probably just does a lot of body weight stuff. Her core looks like a lifelong gymnast or someone that does calisthenics.

And yet here is a dominant MMA champion who literally says lifting is completely unimportant to her.

At the same time, she has a better physique than most of her fellow competitors who do lift weights.

Do you think she is lying?

Gsp has said before he lifted weights. Not sure where ur getting that from. He specifically said he disliked doing them, actually

naa she's not lying just exaggerating. she's 167 cm and weights 57 kg. It's enough to do some heavybag workout to gain muscle for a woman that size. Most of the amateur (male) kickboxers / boxers look the same and are ripped skinnyclowns.

sheva is kinda attention whore with her jealous lame ass comments about weili (?) after the joanna fight and her wannabe sexy posings, russian spy gossips and so on. she's full of shit. so i think she's doing extra work but not that much.

also; her sister using weights;

Good find! LOL kettlebells, sled pull, heavy medicine ball drills. No additional strength and conditioning, huh, Valentina?

English is like her third language, so maybe some nuance is being lost in translation. Or maybe she is just lying!

I can see how she has her physique if she is working out like her sister.

As far as is it believable? Sure, why not. She's 125lbs at arguably the weakest division in all of mma. I mean, there's many kinds or resistance training other than free weights too.

Would some sort of resistance training be beneficial for a large portion of mma athletes, probably including Valentina? I would say yes, although of course only a very broad answer is possible because it's all very situation-dependent. Probably not training for pure strength (1 rep max type training), but other modalities, sure, why not.
