We know gsp supposedly walked away and was supposed to fight whitaker ..

but in the grand scheme of things .. who gives a shit ??

he is UFC material... HOF fuqn GOAT status and you wanna not see the fight ?

s it because it hurts the brand ? have a guy come out of "retirement" and beat a dominant champ ? does that take away from what we seen Khabib do ?

we wanted Jones vs. Silva ( think we know now Jones woulda won) but still

Gsp Vs. Silva ( Hard Call but probably Silva due to GSP being timid and scared to shoot .. )

Fedor vs. Brock ( who knows UFC probably would have let brock juice the fuck out to get the W)

fuck Dana I've been watching since a kid when you had to go to the unrated section and get a VHS tape ..

what's the real deal behind not making these fights ???

cause I don't know, and blaming the fighters for not making the deal is BS ..

ok done crying now ... break time is over

Dana has kind of hated GSP since he took the middleweight title and left, despite saying he would defend it. (due to medical reasons).

He doesn't want a repeat of that. But what I don't get is why can't they just make it an exhibition.

Some fights don't need a title to make them worth a main event. This is one of them IMO

GSP isn't easy to control/manipulate/leverage in negotiations; GSP walked away from two divisions as the champion without losing, which makes promoting the successor a lot more difficult.

That about sums up why Dana doesn't want to make GSP vs. Nurmagomedov.

GSP burned the UFC in the past

He wants to come back, he will have to prove his worth

He doesn't really want to come back..

He turns 40 in May, and the legacy is secured.. Has plenty of money and other interests.. He is working for the UFC again as a French Commentator so the relationship with them is good again..

You sound like all those people who blamed Dana for never making GSP v Silva...

...10 years before the news broke that GSP was pricing himself out of that fight by demanding a 10x payday.

If Khabib and GSP want to fight - probably at 170 - for a reasonable price, I’m sure Dana will gladly oblige. But they’re both basically retired so I’m not holding my breath.

If GSP comes back and manages to beat Khabib, he's not walking away. He will fight Conor and then walk away.

If Dana's upset that GSP will come and take the belt and then walk away, well.. That's what Khabib is doing now anyway, right? So what's the problem? Just make the fight. If the winner decides to stop after, doesn't change the situation much from what it is now. Except you give the fans what they want and UFC gets a huge payday.

no it was only later revealed that gsp was a pussy ... at the time we wondered wtf ??

but it could all be a bad negotiation on some island if we know ‍♂️
Point being, you don’t know it’s Dana who should be shouldering all, most, or even some of this blame. And yet blame you do.

But a guy who calls GSP a pussy isn’t worth taking too seriously, so it’s time I graciously exited.

@accolyte1022

pussy was harsh yes ... but gsp didn't want the smoke rough translates to say thing against silva

Gsp is big ww, khabib is lw.
GSP is not a big WW. In fact, their walk around weight is around the same amount. GSP said that he weighed around 185 when he was fighting at WW and bulked up to about 200 for his MW title fight, but is now lighter than he was before as he had to force feed himself all the time and he stopped doing this after he got sick. And Khabib's walk around weight is 190-195, according to Josh Thomson, one of Khabib's longtime teammates at AKA.

It has to due with what happens after he wins? Will he stay? Will he retire again? What happens to the belt if it's on the line?

Considering the outcome with GSP winning the middleweight belt, and retiring again when he was supposed to fight Whittaker (which was in his contract) - I understand the issues with Khabib vs GSP. Things may be different when their isn't a belt on the line and it's a one off fight in the future.

They can make a belt specifically for that fight like the BMF belt so it doesn't create any issues with the actual lightweight championship belt. The winner of that belt can challenge the actual champion after or just retire again so there is no real issues moving forward. This would allow them to market the fight as a championship fight with a belt on the line, without having to risk the actual championship belt.

He kid of hated him long before that.

Khabib vs GSP would be legendary though, especially if it's at 155.

Either Khabib goes 30-0 and has a win over one of the all-time greats of MMA. Or GSP becomes the first UFC fighter to win the belt in 3 divisions, and, does so at age 40 against the current #1 P4P ranked fighter and all-time best LW fighter.

Hope they manage to make this fight happen sometime in 2021.

We know gsp supposedly walked away and was supposed to fight whitaker .

What do you mean supposedly? That's exactly what happened, there is no debate about it.

I never blamed GSP for coming back, winning the MW title, and then leaving again. He put years and years into MMA, being apart of the golden era building the UFC to what it is today, more power to him if he wants to pick his fights and come out for only interesting stuff.

But, the UFC was stupid for giving him that MW title fight. A guy 4 years retired that waited for the easiest MW opponent to rise to the top, there was no doubt in my mind it would be one and done for him. The UFC have had a big problem for a while now of completely throwing away any illusion of structure to title fights and how a fighter gets one, it's all just pure money matches these days. Old names worth more than current wins. Champ vs Champ fights before one or both have even defended a title. That shit bites them in the ass now and they've de-legitimized a bunch of their divisions with it. They have no concept of who the actual talents are that will rise to the top, it's all just who is trending and lets give them a shot and see if they can hail-mary their way to looking like they belong.

So with all that said, if they don't want to make Khabib vs GSP then I say great, it shouldn't be happening. If GSP wants to get back into the pool and earn at least 1 win against a LW top 10, and looks impressive doing it, then by all means make a title fight. But I've no interest in seeing GSP come back and potentially destabilize another division he has no intention of competing in beyond one fight. And I don't blame the UFC one bit for not giving it to him.

He knows theres a very good chance he beats khabib. But seeing as khabib most likely done, why not try and make this fight happen
