Demetrious Johnson can see Deiveson Figueiredo as champ ‘for a very long time’

“I think Figueiredo is great,” Johnson told MMA Fighting while appearing on What the Heck. “He’s got all the tools to be a champion for a very, very long time. He can take a shot, he’s got great cardio, great jiu-jitsu, he hits hard and those are all good things to have a long title reign.


“As long as he stays healthy, drug tests come back clean, and keeps making weight, I don’t see why he couldn’t be champion for a long time.”

“I would love to see him and Henry Cejudo,” Johnson explained. “I’d love to see Cejudo come back and fight him because I feel like Henry Cejudo is the complete package. He’ll push the pace, he’ll wrestle, and he’s intelligent. I feel like Henry would go out there and pose problems. Not saying that Alex Perez can’t, I just haven’t seen enough of Alex compete.

And Demetrius won a razor thin decision over Miguel Torres and was a point deduction away from losing the first fight to Ian McCall.

Cant imagine fighters getting better.

daveison is a massive favorite over either of those guys in a rematch.

The problem is not the fighter itself but the opponents. It's like Chael said, Figgy needs a dancing partner. Cejudo would be could, but I'm thinking of Dildoshaw.

Probably because Figueiredo is absolutely fucking shredded every time. Although, to be fair, I did see this as a bit of a diss towards Fig.

What does a fight from 2017 have to do with today? Clearly he's got better a fighter. Izzy won a split over Vettori which was super close and now he's a dominant champ.
