Is simple. He desperately wanted to deliver on his promise to rearrange Conor's face. He knew there was no glory in submitting Conor as Nate, Joe Duffy and some other no name cage warrior journeymen did that and it didn't hurt Conor's career.

No, he wanted to do what only Floyd has done, stop Conor on his feet. So in rd 3, after 2 rounds of leg hugging and figuring Conor would be spent he decided to stand and bang. He gets a rude awakening and after getting outclassed and losing the round he reverted to type in the 4th and had to settle for winning the only way he could. He wanted to shock the world with a KO but even an exhausted Conor had too much for him.

This is why he rage-lunged at Danis after the bout before quickly scurrying off and why his goons blindsided Conor in the cage. It was devastating to him and his crew to see Conor's face unblemished and him walk away with another non-impactful loss by submission.

He will have learned his lesson however and it is guaranteed in the rematch that he doesn't attempt the foolishness of round 3 again. He will leg hug it from beginning to end.

Yeah that instant tap to face squeeze did more harm to Khabib than it did to the Ginger.

Move on bruh your guy is ok now

He already outclassed Conor on the feet....

He felt he could go for another fight vs. another opponent and saw Dilon...

This is the dumbest thread I’ve read here in months

conor is lucky khabib finally had enough and didn’t give him another round 2

Lol. Conor was a broken shell of a man by the end of that fight.

Khabib did pretty well on the feet.
He also did real damage with the GnP
And for the record, he was not outclass, standing in round #3
Easy win for Khabib, in all aspects, while Dilon was still yelling insults to him in front of his family

Khabib dominated Conor everywhere that mattered. I don't think he was seeking the KO at all, he just wanted to show he wasn't afraid to stand and take the opportunity to put hands on Conor's face for all the disrespect. I also doubt Khabib expected that knockdown. For all of Conor's flaws he's got a damn good chin; it'd take a beautifully placed punch on a completely surprised Conor to get him out of there, and that's asking a lot as he has very good eyes. I doubt he gets KO'd in MMA if he ever comes back.
