Fighting is awesome and boxing is so popular.

but martial arts and wrestling have been around for thousands of years!

MMA is more exciting than watching a boxing or wrestling match. There’s so much that can happen.

why has it just now started to blow up? It’s not even because of the violence, other sports are more dangerous than mma

You are right. Brand new!

Because Victorian fairies couldn't see the genius of E.W. Barton-Wright.

bare knuckle and lethwei are better than mma and boxing

but they lack Talent pool and Promotion skills

It’s only a few thousand years old, so obviously not as old as F-1 racing and synchronised Swimming.

Thank GOD they wear some clothes nowadays.... At least the dudes! I wonder if any holds were illegal back then?<45>
That's why the dude with the whip is there. Any illegal move and he would just whip them. No 1 point deduction BS or anything. Real mandingo shit

In fact, there were only two rules regarding combat: no eye gouging or biting. Sparta was the only place eye gouging and biting was allowed.

If you look at the history of western world...

Using kicks in a fight was considered primitive

n hitting a downed opponent wasn’t considered honourable

so for long time boxing was the only honourable fighting style

They kept fighting to death so the competitors naturally died of quick.

Because a bunch of 19th century aristocrats in England formulated some rules and convinced ruffians everywhere that their version of combat sport was a noble and manly art, meanwhile around the same time a French aristocrat revived the ancient Olympic games but decided that pankration was far too rough for modern tastes. Bloody toffs.

The Gracies created the olympics and made up ~90% of Sparta.

Because it was hard to sanction the sport of MMA. It's basically street fighting with rules. So it looks more barbaric than boxing. Boxing is limited and only encompasses one style of fighting. It's also in the Olympics, so that justifies boxing more than MMA.

However MMA is basically in the Olympics just separated in different disciplines.

If you read the OP, TS acknowledges that wrestling/grappling and martial arts in general have been around for a long time... The question is why it wasn't as popular as it is now. Some people seem too eager to attack someone for nothing...

Sex was around for long time, so how come porn wasn’t popular before

Why isn't SAFTA being implemented more in MMA?
