Could Khabib vs. Oliveira End Like Askren vs. Maia?

Charles Oliveira wants a crack at reigning UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov. The Lighweight contender has an appointment with Jared Gordon on Saturday night at UFC Sao Paulo. However, that does not stop the submission specialist from thinking about his future in the UFC.

In an interview with Ag Fight, ‘Do Bronx’ made sure to establish he was not overlooking his upcoming fight with Gordon, but could not help but claim that current lightweight champion, Khabib Nurmagomedov, has yet to take on a grappler with his skill set. And Oliveira thinks he could pose a real threat to the Russian’s undefeated record.

“I can’t say anything [bad] about Khabib. He’s been defeating everybody. He beat all the top guys. But they’re all strikers; none of them were jiu-jitsu guys who were unafraid of being taken down. I’m the answer to his game. I’m the right guy to fight Khabib. I think that, if I win two more fights, who knows, I might have this opportunity to fight him. It would be great since I have my jiu-jitsu and I’m not afraid of being taken down.”

Currently on a five-fight winning streak, with four submissions and one TKO victory, Charles Oliveira (27-8-1 NC) defeated the likes of Clay Guida, Jim Miller, Christos Giagos, David Teymur, and Nik Lentz.

I think Khabibs kryptonite will be an explosive wrestle boxer. Like Kevin Lee. But better lol.

Oliveira got smashed by Felder on the ground and Pettis submitted him after Oliveira forced a grappling match I don't see him doing well against Khabib.

He is Khabib's kryptonite just like Davi Ramos was Islam's. I still laugh at the fools on sherdog predicting how Davi was going to sub Islam if the fight hit the ground.

Do Bronx delusional.

Only a top level wrestler with better striking beats Khabib. May never see it to be honest.

With all due respect to the holder of most submission wins, I think he'd better off doing a tetralogy with his eternal rival, Nik Lentz.

I think an elite BJJ guy like maia would expose khabib badly, but oliveira is not that guy. He's made a career out of subbing journeymen with poor ground games, and has some of the most overrated BJJ in the sport as a result.

Most of Oliveira's subs are against poor quality opponents. Compare the people he's submitted to an actual goat mma submission artist like Maia or Werdum and he's not all that. He's lost to almost every decent name he's faced.

Khabibs kryptonite is a Conor McGregor fight, but in a ring.

Reminds me of a certain other guy currently being touted as Khabib's kryptonite ;)

Oliveira isn't even a Top 5 ranked fighter so unlikely he gets the title shot unless he builds a better resume. In addition, his 5-fight win streak isn't against top guys. He forgot that there are levels to MMA and doing well against B+ or A- opponents isn't necessarily going to translate vs. A+ fighters. I think Khabib smashes this guy with little trouble. Over in R1 or R2.

Fight would never hit the mat

Chuck would sleep Khabib on the feet with his length and power
