Why does the welterweight roster still live under the shadow of the greatest Georges St-Pierre ?

This doesnt happen with other division as much , of course every time a new champion emerges there will be questions asked about will the new champion be able to defeat the previous dominant champion and how a matchup between them will go .
But with GSP this narrative takes a whole new level . Every time a welterweight has a good performance (Sometimes that its not even needed) people will run into Sherdog and ask how they will do against the greatest of all time GSP (They dont refer to Georges like this but still) or they will not even ask about it they will start saying that welterweight x could somehow beat GSP .You cant even compete in the welterweight division without getting compared to GSP or having GSP haters claim that he is ducking you .
Maybe its because GSP never lost his belt and his haters never saw someone beat him and prove that he is a better fighter than Georges (Both GSP losses were brutally avenged) and take his belt for good so they fantasize about every new welterweight once in a while beating GSP.

Side Note : In my opinion and the majority opinion no welterweight at its best from any era beats GSP at his best.


Also yes you see once in a while people asking about how Whittaker vs Silva or DC vs Fedor would have gone but not in the extent of GSP vs Welterweight X would haev gone . Not even close.

This is true. With other divisions, it's either a close call or today's best destroys yesterdays best. But GSP would easily mop up today's WW division. He was that ahead of the game.
