Why do MMA sites/forums care about irrelevant news?

Did anyone else notice this or is it just me. It seems like MMA forums (specifically SherDogforums) and MMA news sites (BloodyElbow,MMAmania, etc) like to report on personal things and most of the times irrelevant news about fighters. I dont really see other sports reporting every single thing about a fighter

Below I posted some examples.

Frank shamrock isn't even a fighter and hasnt fought for the UFC forever. But we should care what happens in his life.

This is a story about Michael Pages father like really...? This one was so unnecessary.

Dont forget to buy Conors Proper Twelve guys

Karim Zidan is not even an MMA reporter but works for BloodyElbow and only writes about Russian fighters lives outside of MMA. Not once did I ever see any articles from him about actual MMA related topics.

We need more articles about hairlines.

Takes our minds off of all the fighters who fail drugs test.

Lots of people care about something that is irrelevant, now that's an oxymoron.

There's a growing homosexual fanbase in MMA. They are more interested in gossip, and fighters' physiques and personal lives than in actual fighting.

The need for money, mainstream sports leagues do not suffer from low hit counts, MMA sites do.

Cover USADA’s inconsistencies and you’ll end up locked outside the next press conference.

Break news about who’s fighting who and you’ll be locked outside the next press conference.

Ask Dana a question that isn’t a lobbed softball and you’ll be mocked, ridiculed, and possibly locked out of the next press conference.

Notice a trend? They’re forced to be creative in what they report on and cooperative with the UFC, or else..

I can see that but cant you say the same about NBA or NFL. If there are some reporters that are asking very difficult questions Im sure they'll do the same.

Just like you cared enough about Conor banging some random girl he picked up in the club to make it your avatar I guess.

How would you and I have know about this unless MMA sites and forums didnt cover it? That Conor was allegedly involved in a rape case and now learned that Conor wasnt the one. Then his baby mama side piece drama asking for dna testing.

With regards to testing, the players union has negotiated the testing as far as what for, when it will take place and the ramifications; which has kept the vast majority from ever failing one. This is good for the players and the sport and hence the owners; win-win-win.

Reporters can’t really leak a matchup early like Ariel did with Brock. However, many of them are aware of a players upcoming free agency decision through rumors and connections but they report it as speculation rather than news.

They don’t really have a Dana White type who holds every press conference and gets combative with reporters trying to do their job. Roger Goodell has made tons of mistakes but he gives very political answers or usually says nothing at all.

I think the other leagues recognize that free press is great for business. The more drama they stir up, generally the better. As long as it related to team drama or chemistry, it’s great. As long as it doesn’t get political, they have nothing to lose and everything to gain.

The other leagues don’t seem to be as sensitive about reporters stirring up drama between players and teams to create stories.

At the UFC, Dana is always the centerpiece of every story or drama. He can also be hypersensitive, short-sighted, and short tempered. I think mma media just does whatever they feel they can and avoid having a conflict with him.

Because the internet has become a gathering place for people to shit on other people and to disregard their accomplishments

Thanks for the links.

All were infinitely more interesting than watching Dom Cruz win a 10-9 round, or discussing why Fighter X won 2 out of 3 rounds.
F the Unified Rules and the BS judging that came with it.
