Is it too late to start boxing at 14 years old? If I stay dedicated about how long would it take to go pro?

Yes, switch to ultimate fightin'.

Plenty of time kid. Not every boxer grew from adolescents into an Olympic Gold superstar. Find your own way and see for yourself. The only one who can really answer that question is you.

It truly is a matter of dedication. Remember if you triumphant its all you and if you fail don't blame sherdog or anyone else, best of luck man.

unrelated:
So is 20 years old to old to become a sumo wrestler currently at 138 lbs and I have never sumo wrestled in my entire life

To put it another way, if you posted a thread asking if 26 is too late, the general consensus would still be no it's not.

Zroc did you ever get into beautifulpeople.com legitimately?

I was highly disappointed only 2 other members from Hawaii. :(

14 is roughly when I started. Gil clancy and I think other trainers too won't even let anyone start until 14. Ali started at 12, ray leonard started at 14 I think, ray robinson at about 14. If you can't do it, it's not because you're too old.

I did. I literally got in by one vote at the last second. I don't think it's really a dating site anyway. You have to pay to message people. It's really more of a stroke your own ego site so it doesn't matter where the women are from really. So long as some attractive Japanese chicks wink at me I'm a happy cripple.

Yeah seriously. The funny part is their were only like 8 payed members.

I got winks from the loads of brazilian girls : )

same here. They seem to be the ones who wink back the most. Japan is actually another one with a high response rate.

Do you think the site is legit? I think if it were all fake I'd be getting more replies, instead I just get a few every now and then, and usually when I engage it. Of course there are a lot of fakes most likely, Sherdog kind of proved that.

You can legit wink at someone though, because I actually ended meeting someone from sherdog on that site. That was actually a women

not to mention fly win also sent me winks lol

thanks guys. this wasn't a joke btw :p

Also, i'm a pretty small guy. Average height for my age but a bit skinny. I'm athletic but im one of those fast skinny kids lol. will this be an issue? Or will boxing condition me?

I hope this is a joke. 14 is nowhere near too old.

Give the Kid a break. Its kind of a scary thing to start doing, he's probably full of self doubt and paranoia.

I felt like that before I started lifting weights so I understand the apprehension.

I honestly think he just wants some encouragement, keep in mind he is 14, still just a kid, hell I'm 20 and I'm essentially a child myself in the grand scheme of things.

I can honestly say I'm not much of an expert on boxing, but speed kills. If you can get a groove going with some good defense boxing mixed in you could have some real potential.

Most boxers I know are in terrific shape. Train hard and if you feel you're ready after training take on a amateur fight and move on from there. Once again best of luck man, keep us updated on your progress, you could start a training log here http://forums.sherdog.com/forums/f49/

Thinking back on it now it is kind of understandable for a 14 year old to think like that. You always hear about boxers training from the age of six or whatever so for some it might seem too old. I remember asking my dad if I could train for boxing at age 16, first thing he told me was that I was too old to succeed in it. He made me say I was only doing it for a hobby, and that I wouldn't be a real athlete. Might sound mean now but that's the Irish spirit in action.

Pretty much. Off topic I opened this thread and my first thought was Prince Naseem.

Add sergio martinez in at 20 (first time ever stepping in a gym) and Antonio Tarver who was i believe 28 (for pro) to that list.

Also...see Antonio DeMarco (not his most recent fight) for an example of tall/average height guy who is skinny and kicking people's asses...not doing it for ya? Go see Miguel Vasquez taxing Mercito Gesta's ass and he is just average/tall height and an absolutely emaciated toothpick...seriously kid...14 is nothing...and impossible is nothing :icon_lol:

alright :3 thanks guys
u guys are fukking inspirational lol

going to my first class nxt week probably.

you never hear them say "he didnt step into the ring until he was 14" let's put it this way after 10 years of boxing experience you will still be 24.
