Was rooting for Dustin and I know Eddie's corner are dumbasses for calling for an elbow in that position, but it doesn't mean that it's not a stupid rule. Currently racking my brain thinking of a dumber one, but I can't do it.
12-6 elbows are a legitimate technique that aren't any more dangerous than regular elbows, unless you throw them to the neck, spine, or back of the head, but that's not an issue because striking those areas is illegal period.
Here is Big John and Rogan talking about the origins of the rule and how stupid it is:
Cliffs: It's dumb as fuck and was created by a bunch of impotent old farts that know nothing about martial arts. They watched some karate demonstrations of guys breaking fake bricks with downward elbows and got shook, and supposedly feared for the safety of every cage fighter if this horrible technique was legalized.
Eddie should've known better than to throw it, but the abolition of this really needs to be considered by the appropriate sanctioning bodies.
