10 Greatest Irish Boxers of all Time

I'd probably consider McLarnin a Canadian fighter as opposed to an Irish fighter.

Yeah, you could say that BUT he was born in Ireland.

Jack Dempsey shouldn't be on this list. He's Amerian born and trained. He was in the US Military. Proud American.

Like 99% of Americans have foreign ancestry. By that logic Ali isn't American and other countries could claim all of America's boxers despite being born in the US.

William Harrison "Jack" Dempsey (June 24, 1895 – May 31, 1983), also known as "Kid Blackie" and "The Manassa Mauler", was an American professional boxer, who became a cultural icon of the 1920s.[1] Dempsey held the World Heavyweight Championship from 1919 to 1926, and his aggressive style and exceptional punching power made him one of the most popular boxers in history.[2][3] Many of his fights set financial and attendance records, including the first million-dollar gate. Listed at #10 on The Ring's list of all-time heavyweights and #7 among its Top 100 Greatest Punchers, in 1950 the Associated Press voted Dempsey as the greatest fighter of the past 50 years.[4] Dempsey is a member of the International Boxing Hall of Fame, and was inducted into The Ring magazine's Boxing Hall of Fame in 1951.[2] Born William Harrison Dempsey in Manassa, Colorado, he grew up in a poor family in Colorado, West Virginia, and Utah.

Mike Perez has shown so much skills until he hurt dude. He could have made the top ten easy if that fight didnt happen. I think it messed with his head.

Is that the reference? Didn't read the Bleacher, buy yeah I'll buy that, price dependent obviously.

Would Mccollough's insane amateur career warrant him being higher on this list? 319-11, Commonwealth games gold, two time olympian(one silver medal, loss to Casamayor). As a pro he's an undefeated World Champion bantamweight. All his losses came after he moved up in weight against mainly top notch competition.

He grew up in Canada and identified himself as a Canadian. For all intents and purposes, he was a Canadian fighter. As for Jack Dempsey being mentioned, it's Jack "nonpareil" Dempsey who is being referred to, and he was very much Irish.

if they were talking about the manassa mauler he would top the list, also, he was of Cherokee, Irish and I think Scottish heritage. He did appeal to a lot of people because of that. i guess he had some jewish ancestry too, that covers quite a few groups.

If he means "nonpareil" Dempsey then yes he was Irish. Died at age 32 O_0 damn

And that's a pretty good argument for him being Canadian. I was just pointing out where he was born.

And very proud to be one as he personally expressed in public many times. Particularly his quotes when he received such honours as being voted to the Canadian Sports Hall of Fame, British Columbia Hall of Fame, or in 1950 when he was voted Canada's greatest boxer over the first half of that century. On each occasion McLarnin, who was living in the US at the time (moved there very late in his career...sometime during his last few fights), returned home to collect those honours, and while I don't have his exact quotes in front of me right now, he did clearly express how proud he was to receive such honours and how proud he was in representing Canada during his career. He may have been an "Irish-born Canadian from Vancouver" as he was so often referred to at the time, but he was Canadian nonetheless.

My favorite was Jerry Quarry. I don't know if he was Irish though. Badass dude though.
