I thought it’s common knowledge that old school pro-wrestling moves came from catch wrestling and judo (which also kinda became BJJ and started modern MMA), but in pro-wrestling they got modified for showmanship.

Ok maybe I over-generalized a bit but you get the idea.

The punch to the face still seems pretty effective and macho man was elbowing people on the ground way back.

Technically a closed fist punch is illegal in professional wrestling, so it's not actually a move.

(It was at least still illegal ten years ago or so, when I stopped really watching wrestling.)
