I don't think the UFC wants to find out whether Conor can fight 5-6x a year without an injury and messing up the cards to defend both belts. They got themselves in this situation but didn't plan what to do beforehand. They are writing their own rulebook as it goes along. Maybe Conor is being difficult in negotiations.I haven't really looked into it too much, imo he should of defended the 145lb belt against Aldo even though Khabib or Ferg make more sense, I feel the interim belt shouldn't have title defenses and both belts should be unified asap unless there is a prolonged injured champ like Cruz. The belts don't need to turn into heavy paper weights like WBA titles .

Part of being a champion is to defend the belt against contenders.
