I think there was already a thread asking who the best defensive muay thai fighters were. The responses tended to be guys who where either Sityodtong or Jocky gym fighters.
With Toney I heard that his defence was very integral to his success, because he was quite undisciplined outside the ring. He ended up fighting pretty high above his optimal weight and probably wasn't in the best of shape, so he'd use his defence to take breaks when he was tired and overcome the power advantages his opponent's had. He also managed to stay somewhat relevant into his mid 30s. So, a muay thai fighter who's very talented defensively, kind of lazy, fought well above their natural weight and had longevity. Sounds kind of like Saenchai, except that Saenchai is a much better muay thai fighter than Toney is a boxer.
