Assuming that 1) Edgar returns to fight Holloway and 2) doesn't win the FW title (which may get Max an immediate rematch), who would deserve the FW title shot after that? Brian Ortega already said he's "willing to wait" for a title shot after beating Cub Swanson. This comment annoys me, partially because I hate it when fighters "wait" for their shot -- they should stay active. If they can't beat other top contenders, then they don't deserve the title shot anyway. However, I'm also not convinced that Ortega is next in line after Edgar. I'd argue you could make a case for Ricardo Lamas deserving the next shot as well, assuming he wins his upcoming fight (which was supposed to be against Aldo). Does anyone else feel that Ortega isn't necessarily in a position to wait it out? EDIT -- Consider this scenario: Ortega elects to wait for a title shot, while both Elkins and Lamas win their next fights. While waiting, Elkins and Lamas then square off. The winner of a potential Lamas/Elkins fight would easily leapfrog Ortega for the next title shot, IMO.
