No doubt referees make shitty calls...but its their shitty call to make.
Jimmy Smith at Bellator NYC when Michael Chandler snapped his ankle was adamant yelling "this fight should be over! their are NO TIME OUTS ALLOWED!" I found it annoying honestly.

when referee Todd Anderson wanted the doctor to come in and check out Chandlers injury (as a doctor would with a bad cut). Maybe it SHOULD have been an immediate stoppage rather than a "timeout". However it is fact that once the cage door closes, the referee is the sole arbiter inside the cage. That referee can make any judgement they want regardless of what they've been trained.
A fighter can have the opportunity to challenge a decision when the fight is over filing with the athletic commission but as we all have seen commissions are unlikely to ever overturn a decision a referee makes unless the ref explicitly says themselves that they made a mistake. SO maybe "time outs" are not allowed in the rule book Jimmy Smith, but neither are groin shots and eye pokes yet they are allowed often with a slap on the wrist.

Thoughts?

There are injury time outs... like when the ref asks a doctor to look at a cut.

You can't go stopping a fight here and there for injuries to your feet, hands etc that would cause far too many problems.

but yeah weird statement because there are timeouts in MMA with groin shots, cuts as you said..

ive seen em pause a stowsh when there a massive gash pouring blood, they get the doc in and shit

He was doing his best Joe Rogaine impersonation
