It was supposed to be new rules, Held did absolutely no damage, just LnP. I knew they were going to give it to Held, especially in Poland, but I thought Haq won as well.

I'm surprised that decision is controversial honestly. I was pretty sure Held would have the decision. It looks like most play by plays had it that way too. I'm not going to rewatch it to rescore it, but I figured 29-28 Held at worst. Held would have been livid if he lost that one after losing the Lauzon decision!

Haqrapest wasn't fucking up Held. So why should landing 5 more clean punches count more than Held dominating rounds with his grappling? I thought we'd hear at least one 29-28 since Haq did drop Held despite the rest of the round, but it would've been a bit of a robbery to give Haq that W

Exactly. You're talking about Rd 2. Rd 1 was close but Held did the stanky leg at the time I mentioned so he really shouldn't have won that round either. Dan Hardy knew what was up and called the fight properly.

The main issue is 30-27s across the board. I can handle some judges missing that Held was rocked in Rd 1 (Held did a good job of trying to play it off), but giving him Rd 2 is just bonkers.

If you can watch Rd 2 and score it for Held you might be special

If you hurt me on the feet, then I take you down with a double against the cage (no slam) and lay in your guard for the rest in the round (little to no damage), should I win the round?

I guess a lot of people are special. I've seen more people arguing Rd 1 as obvious than Rd 2.

To me that was exactly the type of fight for why new rules were implemented, plan and simple. To make the sport more exciting and not benefit LnP. The striking was really never close and Held laid in guards for the majority of the grappling exchanges. He did threaten with some leg locks, but if I was watching a "fight" I would say Haq won.

This is a bit much though. Considering Haq literally just landed like maybe 5 more clean punches on the feet than Held in the "arguable" rounds, obviously great positional grappling has to be considered in scoring. But its not like Held literally just stuck his head in Haq's chest and hugged. He went for a few subs, he landed a few shots on top (all it takes is a few considering, again, Haq didn't fuck him up at all, just a few more clean shots on the feet), and he controlled majority of all the rounds in a superior position.

Really the only round I think is arguable is the first cause Haq dropped Held. Think that should prob weigh more than anything else that happened, despite it easily being Helds most aggressive round on the mat especially in that last min or two.

He dropped him in the 2nd, not the 1st

Damn my memory is going to shit really could've swore that was the first but yeah. I guess its kind of debatable, but I'd just really need more than landing a few cleaner punches on the feet to give a guy a round when hes getting dominated on the mat.

In Rd 1 he went for 0 subs, just got locked down in Nasrat's closed guard. Tried some GNP but it really accomplished nothing.

Oblivian has talked about the importance of body language before. In Rd 1 Held was on roller skates after eating a straight left counter but the dude's body language is excellent. It takes a trained judge to spot that stuff.

Yeah having a good poker face in combat sports is one of the more overlooked attributes a guy can have. Not speaking to this fight, did not see it, but that's always a good point to bring up. Guys who can play off a good shot are gonna get much more benefit of the doubt from judges/fans than somebody who gets the noodle legs every time they're buzzed with something, even if both fighters in question are equally affected by the shot.

Yeah but it's even worse here because Held did get the noodle legs. He still managed to keep alpha posture and minimize movement until he got his feet under him.

I think I recall that you have grappled before. When a guy is in your closed guard and you have completely broken his posture, do you feel like you're getting dominated? Seriously, rewatch Rd 1 when you get a chance.

I can't even debate individual rounds anymore after being confident round 1 was the one he got dropped lol but I can at least say I clearly remember Held completely dominating on the mat. Maybe not in the sense he was passing and attacking left and right, but Nasrat had literally no answer to anything for most of those rounds spent on the ground.

Idk if body language was the difference here cause Held looked terribly tired in his from like the end of round 1 til the end of the fight while Nasrat seemed pretty damn confident.

Not gonna lie no chance I rewatch that shit show fight anytime soon especially when i gotta make time for Brazil tape watch, but being held down for majority of round with Held landing a few shots in between should count for something if hes not getting fucked up. Again not saying he landed much, can remember literally him landing just a couple shots everytime he was on top, but in this sort of fight that seems to be all it takes to edge a round in my eyes.

Basically Nasrat was clearly the better striker. Held clearly the better grappler. Outside of the knockdown, i'd say in other rounds, despite the difference, Nasrat landed just a handful more punches on the feet. On the flip side, Held managed to keep the fight on the mat for majority of all rounds, and he didn't Pearl Gonzalez or anything like that where he literally just hugged. He kept Nasrat down. He landed a handful of punches from on top, went for a few subs. Was active and positionally dominant enough to edge the fight in my interpretation.

Lol, dude, yes you are correct but that was ROUND 2, the one in which he got blasted and knocked down.

In that round, Held's offense consisted of:

    1. Pulling closed guard (unsuccessful)
    2. a good diving heel hook attempt (Haqparast was never at risk, and by the way he is excellent at heel hook defense)
    3. Lying in side control, half guard, or closed guard and with 0 sub attempts and 0 GNP except for two left elbow strikes from closed guard with 10 seconds left

sure, but the problem is that he was getting fucked up on the feet and lying on top of someone doesn't negate that.

I'm guessing you didn't have money on the fight. Neither did I, but it amuses me that many of the people questioning the decision had money on the fight. Those are the guys that watched the fight most closely.
