he was hurt, not really something you can hold against him imo. lots of fighters panic when they get hurt
 
Mathews had that fully padded UFC record, and was an easy person to bet against. eye-poked fighters 0-3 tonight. Ive had 3 shaky starts turn into wins. Good night for my bets and at this point playing with house money...... and now ive jinxed myself.

u called it? woah! cool, me too! did u make some money off of him? I did!

i cant believe he was the underdog in this fight. i dont think the oddsmakers really studied him in his fights. this dude is severely underrated and is easily a top 10 lw. he can beat many of the top guys (ive been saying this since he subbed nijem in the first minute of the first round.)

good stuff. easy money.

exactly. backing up in a straight line with your head high in the air is always the sign of a top 10 fighter. Lets not get a head of ourselves. For a golden glove champion his defense looked horrid IMO.

He's not a top 10 LW
 
Vick is one of my favorite fighters because he lives or lived in the neighborhood by where I work. Im not sure who his striking coach is? He doesnt really know how to use his reach well. He has zero head movement, and tries to use his hands to block all punches. He should change up his striking coach.

For all the talk of Golden Gloves boxing, he fights much more like a muay thai fighter.
 
Matthews was destroying Vick. He's still the far better prospect moving forward. He just a kid though, he needs to up his fight IQ and he'll get to the top of the division.

Agreed 100%. Matthews was very handily winning the round/fight til he made a rookie mistake like you would expect from a 20 y/o.

Considering Matthews was winning with absolute ease before handing Vick his neck at the end of the round I imagine there was at least some stock to his being the favorite. What about Vick's game needed more "studying"? He offered nothing whatsoever until the hail mary guillotine.

That "Hail Mary guillotine" followed a vicious knee and some uppercuts that in all likelihood had Matthews rocked/stunned.
 
Sucks for Matthews, his stirking really surprised me against a guy who usually keeps guys at arm's length.

According to FightMetric Matthews landed 4/28(14%) of his strikes. He landed a few good shots, but it seems like people are really exaggerating his performance the other night.
 
Matthews has serious holes in his striking game, myself and my mate were watching the fight and both of us agreed that Matthews was gonna walk onto something, he has explosive power but he was repetitive in his actions, he was leaping in throwing a hook right hand combo and wasn't setting up his strikes with feints or angles, both myself and my mate come from striking backgrounds and were not surprised when vick started landing uppercuts which changed the tone of the fight and affected Matthews confidence, Matthews has a long way to go before he is as good as a lot of sherdoggers think
