Traveling to the Philippines

So next month I've decided to go to Cebu to meet up with an American friend who's traveling Asia with her boyfriend to sort of celebrate Thanksgiving. Cebu is the closest and cheapest flight from Korea and I know many Koreans go there to study/travel. Because of work I can only be there for four days. There's also a chance I might be going with a another buddy of mine.

My thoughts now are:
Go diving with whale sharks (#1 on my list)
Eat cheap food, drink cheap booze and relax on the beach.
While I will be there to meet my friend and her boyfriend, I definitely want some time for myself to hit up bars and clubs and meet local women.

I never been to the Philippines so I have no idea how it is there. Is it super poor? Are the people nice? Is it dangerous? Are the women hot? Will I still be a manlet?
What are you some tips/advice/suggestions for traveling there? I know some sherdoggers are Filipino or have lived/live there. @loyalyolayal @steve38

It is miserably poor there. Food is crap compared to Thailand but on the other hand everyone speaks English.
 
Haha, I used to travel to Cebu about 1-2 times a month when I was in Korea. Cebu is pretty much a colony of Korea at this point.

I've got quite a few friends there, Korean and Filipino. HMU if you want me to get down with the escorts who cater to Koreans and the ladyboys. Cebu Filipinos definitely aren't the biggest fans of Koreans, but Koreans who speak English well and aren't with the industry there will bring the girls to the yard.

That's almost completely wrong. While poverty exists and is pervasive, you can remain completely insulated from that. Cebu is very cosmopolitan and has malls, luxury malls, high end developments, great views from nice restaurants and the resorts there are top quality.

It's a small trip from moalboal to kawasan falls. Go canyoneering there.

I wish I'd known such a thing existed or else I would like to have done that in Cebu.

For sure, although I'm not into ladyboys... My Korean buddy said he got a lot of attention from the local girls when he was traveling there. He actually hated it because it was a bit too much and he's exclusively into white girls anyway. Here's hoping I do better there than when I was in Hong Kong or Japan.

Here's moalboal. Not the best Cebu has to offer but it's about 30 mons away from kawasan falls.

 
I had a great time in Cebu.

Tip everyone, especially hotel staff.

Eat a ton of bbq/lechon. Eat a ton of fruit, amazing.


I don't find Philipino's attractive. But I guess head to Mango ave. for drinking/partying.

Use taxis to get around, you will get hassled for spare change alot. Kids will approach you if you're on foot in seedier areas.
