I had a ACL surgery and after 8 months of rest and rehabilitation i finally returned to bjj practise and what a disaster it was! Condition was terrible which was expected, but everything else seems to be gone too.
Timing, techniques etc.. I am brown belt and i struggled with blue belts when i came back, and it seems that i need to think every movement long time, when before it was automatic.
Now this is my first long layoff so i would like to know that is this normal and how long should it take to get back into it?

I had my ACL reconstructed 19 years ago and started BJJ 10 years later. Assuming you're in your 20s or 30s, you should be fine in a few months. Maybe not what you once were, but still a legit brown belt.

In my experience with returning after layoffs (4 knee and 2 hip surgeries), it takes about 3 months after your body is "100%" to really feel like yourself again while training.
