Brittany had better producers and choreographersWhich is odd to me considering of her counterparts she was a worse singer than Christina Aguilera. Christina's songs were just not as catchy or even as good for that matter. In the past 30 years I would say the biggest female pop stars in no order are: Britney, Rihanna, Beyonce, Taylor and Gaga.
He was pretty big back in the 70's-90's. 22 albums, 17 top 10 hits solo. Cream was pretty big in the 60's too. I'm not surprised at all. "I shot the Sheriff" , "Tears in Heaven" and "Layla" were all 2x platinum.Eric Clapton is a bit of a surprise.
Thought this was pretty interesting.

This is a decent point imo. Other people on this board have disagreed with me about something similar but Swift, Drake, BTS, Justin Bieber, The Weeknd and Beyonce for example I wonder how they would have done sells wise against other eras? I think Swift would have done okay in another era but I think if you put any of those other artists in any other era they don't sell as much, and I don't think they have long term success.
Not writing off the accomplishment, but free shows aren't comparable to ticketed shows. It was pointed out in another thread that Madonna just set the record for stand-alone concert attendance. At 65 years old, 1.6 million people attended her concert in Rio on May 4. I'm not sure how one would adjust for era but that's pretty unbelievable.
It's not easy to have long-term popularity like that across many generations. Swift is really the only person on there that I think could achieve some measure of it but it's too early to say.
Dark Side of The Moon alone stayed in the Billboard Top 200 from its release in 73 to 1988. It's entered the Billboard Top 200 on and off for nearly 1000 weeks, charting as recently as last DecemberHow is Pink Floyd so high?
A whiter shade of paleDifferent shade of white
Elvis was definitely not white.Top 8 being all white is a bit of a shock

That kind of record is partly popularity, but a lot just whether or not a venue has any interest hosting a crowd that size for free. You'll notice Monsters of Rock and other festivals and big artists have done similar numbers. I'm not hating on Madonna, I'm just saying that given the opportunity, there are festivals and other acts that could get numbers like that.No shit. There have been plenty of free shows and Madonna at 65 set the record.
