Media Throwback: McGregor dismantling Max Holloway

Because context matters.

Holloway was a kid when they fought.
Dustin is a good win but he wasn't at his best at 145, and he mauling Conor twice after that kind of hurts his case.
Mendes was great and a consistent #2 during the Aldo years, but he rolled straight out of the couch to fight Conor.

Then he sniped Aldo which was probably the most amazing title win ever. But it's not enough to be in GOAT conversation when you leave the division without ever defending.

Conor's FW isn't even in the same ballpark as what Aldo, Volk and Max have done in the division.
Conor was pretty much a kid too, he only had one fight in the ufc. lol the cope to make Max seem greater than Conor is hilarious. He dominated max with a tire acl and was Maxes only loss for years

I agree that let's not downplay the fact that Conor was a badass and was also not at his prime yet. If you look past his fame and shenanigans he was one scary fighter with KO power and pin point accuracy. Honestly if Conor fought Max instead of Nate after his win against Aldo I would have had Conor as the slight favorite at the time, but in hindsight I'm not sure if Conor would have handled the pace of Max if the fight went into the championship rounds. It would have been an epic fight for sure. Fight would have likely happened if Conor stayed at FW...

Powerful, accurate punchers will always be a bad matchup for cardio pitter-patter punchers. That being said, Max has enough sting now to work matchups like that in his favor. Even the perception of Holloway's power will be a new factor after his last two bouts.

Dumb comparison. It’s fight experience that matters not age, Conor only gad a few fights when he was subbed. He only had one fight in the ufc when he beat max too, so max had far more experience
BS that Max had far more experience. Conor was a two division champ with 16 fights under his belt. Max had been fast tracked to the UFC after about 4 fights and was fighting his 9th fight.

Years afterwards maybe. Max had just lost to Bermudez the fight before, and the fight before that he was gifted a decision against Garcia. Granted he didn’t lose again for quite some time after Conor but he took a big step down in competition and wouldn’t fight anyone relevant in the division for 2 years or so.

Its pretty clear Max just wasn’t on the level of the best guys in the division in 2013. And it’s no wonder really. He was 21 years old with 9 total pro fights.
