he was getting old as shit and wanted to keep fighting. so he started taking steroids. he spent his career skinny as shit and relying on speed and reflexes. he was not on steroids the entire time.

This is the answer. They also help to heal little nagging injuries before fight night. Charley horses, etc. that don't keep you from fighting, but hurt like hell and can hinder your performance.

I also do not understand. I think it might go case by case, meaning, people use it as a smoke screen for other more abstract forms of hatred.

Say, your fav is some fighter with a less impressive career, but who happened to not test positive. So, instead of being honest that you hate Silva because his career is more impressive and he is undeniably the best, you use the PED argument to assassinate his character. Worse: what if you just hate black fighters or brazilian fighters like Perrichet? You can't go around saying that, so you need to hide behind these irrelevancies.

id say its two other things :
1) some people really dont like to see someone else be successful, i see this on a smaller scale on a daily basis.
like it dimenishes their achievements or rather that by putting others down, heightens their own achievements.

Yeah, but a lot of his top wins were over proven steroid users like Vitor, Marquardt, Chael, Bonnar, Leben. Even Hendo was jacked up on TRT and who knows what else.
