Interesting to hear that your opinion has changed. Frankly, since you're the guy who is always talking about wanting to see films that don't feel like typical Hollywood cinema I was surprised you weren't more into it the first time around.
I wonder how much of that $2 million went to Defoe and how much the film would've cost to make if they had cast another unknown in his role instead.
Have you seen American Honey? I asked you about that earlier but I don't think you responded. If you liked The Florida Project, you'll probably also like American Honey. The styles and subject matter are very similar.
This will sound funky
I stopped looking at it as a movie and started looking at it as real life. This shit happens to many many people and thats how I was able to connect with it.
Before I was just watching a movie and I think I might not have realized the significance of the story
Another intresting tibit is that the first time I was on weed and the second time I was 100% sober. So I think I was able to get more emotionally invested in it and not just be stoned
But yeah man Its not a fun or happy feeling after watching this movie and that has stayed with me. I felt like the director was able to get me to feel the emotion he wanted me to feel.
Sean Baker is a very talented director and he does it with very very original subject matter. Try to find me a movie that is set in a hotel with these characters and these themes. I dont think you can
So yeah It took me 2 viewings but I became a fan
