Anybody else have dealt with this?

Injured my left shoulder fighting, and the MRI results shows "Large full thickness tear involving the mid and inferior subscapularis" So the tendon is pretty much torn.

Wanted to know if I should let it go, and live with the lost of strength. Keep training & Possibly keep fighting.

Or get surgery?

As I'm based in Australia, would it be better to get the surgery done somewhere more advance, like in
Bangkok or Singapore?

Cheers...

Always remember, it could be worse, IT COULD HAVE BEEN ME!

Find a good doctor through exhaustive research and referrals and GET IT FIXED. Dislocated both my shoulders a few times back in the day and my left one still hurts 25 years later. Sometimes I can do 100 pushups, sometimes zero because of pain. If it was me, I would check with Mike Swick and find a good doctor in Phuket. GL.

I tore my biceps tendon. Went and had an MRI and the Dr. said he recommended surgery asap but said I would be down minimum 9-16 months. I couldn't be out of work that long so I declined. Physical therapy did the trick and my arm is as strong as ever even though my right bicep is a deformed ball when I flex. I had pain from my shoulder up by my neck all the way through my hand. Feels fine now but every case is different. I recommend trying therapy first.

Do you know Mike Swick?

Is he still operating AKA Phuket?

Personally I thought the surgeons in Bangkok would be better than the doctors in Phuket.

Thanks for sharing and hope everything is working out for you.

Like you, I don't want with training and fighting for a year or so.
Figured that I'll be fine as long as I can still throw a jab lol.

No, I don't know him. But he's a cool cat and I'm sure plenty of his fighters have been through the exact same thing. He would help a brother out, for sure. Not all doctors are created equal and you need one that deals with athletes. Keep that in mind, as it makes a huge difference with rehab and functionality for your sport. How did you get hurt?

I would give yourself 2 months of physical therapy and see how it heals and how fucntional you are. I've had surgery a few times and each time they have had me do physical therapy first to strengthen the area before hand because of muscle atrophy after surgery and a quicker recovery. If you start the therapy and you gain your strength back without pain and progress back into your full workouts then you know surgery wasn't needed. Eventually you're gonna need it though, catch 22 I know..

I don't think I'd want to have surgery in Bangkok or Singapore. It there was a mix up you could wake up with a sex change.

I would get an opinion from a baseball doctor tbo.
shoulder problems are very very common in base ball from the constant throwing and throwing from different angles.
I played ball for years before getting into bjj and baseball was way worse on my shoulders.
I'm a right handed player and even dislocated my left shoulder while grappling and still my right is worse.
The doctor I used also said get shoulder Sergey from a baseball specialist if that's what you elect.
They do it on the weekly and are very experienced, same with elbow/ Tommy John problems

Australia has good shoulder surgeons. Had a full shoulder reconstruction and got my torn shoulder completely fixed (back to benching the 275, or 125 kg to you and me).

Muay Thai fight 3 weeks back in Phuket, Sainyamen Stadium. Went for a body in the second Rd, just as he went for a spinning elbow. My arm shifted somehow out of wack from his spin.. Never in a million yrs would i think I would fuck my shoulder up like that...fluke injury, god/buddha hates me,yada yada lol

I also suspect it could have been slightly torn over the years, and just needed that final trigger for a full tear

That sound sound very logical man and thank you for that information ;)

Thanks for the details.....scout your doctors like you would a woman....you're in control and choosing the doctor. If they don't ask how you got hurt, move onto the next one. Eventually you will find a sports doctor that knows his shit and actually cares, and he will fix you up.....or maybe he will just refer therapy. But, you take control of this, like you're doing. GL.

Did you win the fight at least?

LOL no!

Injury happened close to the end of the second when I felt it snapped. When back to my corner and they couldn't understand how bad my shoulder was. Went back out and told the ref myself I quit... It wasn't worth the risk of fighting 3 more rds, with 1 arm, against someone of his caliber. He's the Stadium Champ of his division (112Pounds), it wasn't for his title and I still never got paid for it (dodgy camp) lol....shit wasn't worth it

I do not know how bad yours is, but I tore my labrum (and other damage) when I dislocated my shoulder weight-lifting many years ago. It was the same type of injury Manny Gamburyan suffered in his fight against Nate Diaz. I popped it back in and let it heal on its own, and figured it would eventually get back to full strength like everything always had.

In my case the torn labrum essentially removed a stabilizer in the shoulder and caused it to dislocate more easily in the future. Every subsequent dislocation would weaken the shoulder a bit more. From a training or fighting perspective, it is frustrating as hell to be sparring or fighting and being more worried about your own shoulder than by what your opponent intends to do to you. You can never fight 100% with that in the back of your head.

When I got older and became more financially secure I saw a specialist who recommended surgery. For me it has been great. The recovery sucked, but my shoulder feels like new. I wish I would've had it done a decade ago.

By the way bro, who and where you recommend?

I'm seeing some guy up from Adelaide Sports Med in September, but he sounds like a larry to me

Get it fixed, good luck fighting on that. Add in the extra damage you will take you will definitely regret it early forties and on otherwise.

Are you an Aussie? why wouldn't you do it here? No way are they more advanced unless you mean going the route of test/GH etc in Thailand. If you don't have 1-2 years to wait for free public surgery just research surgeons, save up and you're done.
