is there no way of escaping a side mount kimura?

it seems there is no escape but only preventing, by preventing from getting your arm out to your side for your opponent to crank it in the first place, correct?

When on your back hug your arms into your body like your life depends upon it, don't let them isolate an arm and get the grip. If they do, try to straighten your arm out, once it's straight the grip will be broken/loose and you can bring your elbows quickly down and get your arms back against your body (like you are trying to deny underhooks).

If your left arm is getting kimuraed and he's only got one hand on your wrist (other hand trying to get under your arm) bring your left knee up and inside the hand he has on your wrist. push his hand off your wrist with your knee.

If he's got the kimura locked up with both wrists, bring your left knee up and grab the crook of your knee (reaching to the inside of your leg -- I don't know if it's possible to reach around to the outside, but don't do that). Then, pulling inward with your leg as though you're using one of those inner thigh toners from the eighties, you'll use the strength of your leg to bring your hand back to your centreline where you can grab it with your other hand.

Just beware that he's probably going to jump up and try to do the kimura/armbar where he turns you onto your side.
