You can just tell that they really wanted to rely heavily on the speculated source material, but did it in such a hammerfisted way that it came out really bad. Almost seemed like some weird 7 samurai in space movie, but without any stakes because you stop caring about the characters about 20% of the way through.

It was definitely odd that he tried to halfheartedly inject some of the jedi/sith mysticism, but did nothing to explain it why it was meaningful to his story. Like oh, here's a person with swords and probably a cool back story that we won't touch on at all, cool right? Here's a ripoff scene from Avatar, but our guy has a lot of spray tan and muscles, cool right? Here's this cool resistance leader (Definitely NOT Saw Gerrera, and I can't stress that enough) that we forgot to explain why we should care about and be invested in.
 
Completely awful, and that's coming from a guy with low standards for movies. 2/10
