Who would you like the UFC make him fight next to end all of this

Does RIP now mean potentially losing a slow paced fight with minimal strikes thrown?

You want a 3 round point fight decision to end Colby?

Actually, this is a very good match-up for Thompson. Colby is the kind of guy that always wants to move forward and be pretty aggressive with his strikes and TD's, so Thompson could light him up pretty badly like he did to Johny or something. It definitely wouldn't be as one-sided as that, but with Colby's aggressiveness and 'meh' defense, I could definitely see him getting beat up pretty badly by Thompson.

Thompson isn't necessarily just a point fighter. It's not like he doesn't try to hurt and/or finish his opponents, it's just that he's a very patient counter striker and his opponents know to stay measured with their attack. They don't want to give him the opportunities to counter and possibly hurt or finish them. Thompson isn't known for being the aggressor and 'leading the dance'. He prefers to hang back and let his opponent leave an opening for him to capitalize on.

Thompson's style can sometimes seem boring and like he's just a point fighter, but earlier in his UFC career and before he fought Rory and Tyron, he was actually beating people up. The reason for that is because his opponents opened up a lot more than his more recent opponents as of late. They gave him many counter punch/kick opportunities while Rory, Tyron and Masvidal did not because they understood his game much better than say Hendricks, Ellenberger, Cote, etc.

You have to fight very smart against Thompson to beat him. Unfortunately, it seems the only way to beat him is to play a very similar game by hanging back and trying to force him to be the aggressor. Thompson is extremely patient and doesn't really get frustrated, so it will often (probably always) make for a boring fight because he won't take many risks coming forward. People (you) will hate on him, but it takes two to tango so it's not only his fault when one of his fights suck.

It's not only his fault the rematch with Tyron was one of the worst title fights ever. Thompson has had some other 'meh' fights, but if you actually watch his fights and pay attention to what's happening, maybe you'll understand why they suck instead of just saying he's a boring point fighter. There's a reason for why some of his fights really aren't that entertaining and it's not 100% his fault and only his fault.

That said, Colby is definitely one of the guys in the division that I believe play into Thompson's game very well. Out of everybody in the division that could dismantle Colby right now, Thompson is one of them because of their styles. Colby would not sit back like Tyron and wouldn't look to be as technical as Jorge. Colby would likely move forward and go for it - giving Thompson very many opportunities to finally open up as much as he'd like to and possibly hurt and finish him.

You know the saying; styles make fights.
