Match was crazy af.

At about a 1:35 into round 2, I thought the fight could have been stopped, as Edson had nothing left, had gotten the Hel beaten out of him and it was just non-competitive.

Definitely ate crow on that one as we got the best Stanky Leg we've ever seen.

Either way, props to Barbosa. As soon as he sat down in the 5th, I was like "oh, fuck. There's no way a doctor is going to look at that dude and let him fight on". They would probably have lost their practicing license but Edson probably could have fought on and that 5th round was looking pretty good.

Did anyone else reflect on how MMA used to be a see saw between rasslers and BJJ and just how dominant wrestlers have become in the past X amount of years? It's not even close and hasn't been for a long ass time.

Edson is as overrated as they come.

Him landing that spinning shit & sending Lee into the Twilight Zone in the 3rd was straight up insane, after the horrific beating he absorbed in the first 2 rounds.

Dude is the very definition of a warrior.

His striking is that good.

Some nights he looks faster than others. Not sure why that is but he looked like both Edson's last night.

We've been in a period where a fighter can't just muay thai and BJJ anymore.

High level wrestling is way too dominant.

Edson is pretty much what we've thought he was: a really good striker with decent BJJ.

Even though he lost, I think the warrior definition was immortalized for him last night.

Scored both rounds 1 and 2 10-8. He looked like he had zero left by the end of the 2nd but that chicken dance almost caused a heart attack.

A number of posters have been saying he has no heart but to even come into round 2 after the 1st was tough. Everything else was on another scale.

I'm sure you've seen a number of peeps advocating 10-7 rounds and if they are, then by their criteria, rounds 1 and 2 were probably scored 10-7 by them.

He has amazing kicks but his hands are average at best. Michael Johnson, who has like 15 losses, outstruck him on the feet for 3 rounds.

Edson has a Vitor-esque quality (Old vs. New).

Some nights he seems to be fast as fuck with hands, feet, knees, tdd, etc.

There are others where he looks lazy.

It's almost at a point to where it's asked "which Edson will show up".

IDK what it is. Maybe it's the weight cut, seeing as he's already lean af. He might be a more natural WW.

Apparently, Edson's submission game in non-existent. Lee was begging to be triangled.

Dude needs to train TDD and boxing ffs.

He has no hands for wrestlers to respect.

IDK about that.

Kevin's top game might just be that good.

I might not remember correctly but I think it was pretty much the same with Ferguson: In round 1, the stand up was whatever but as soon as he got it on the ground, he beat the living Hel out of Tony to where it looked like it might be non-competitive.

He's also been through a murderer's row at 155. Khabib, El Cucuy and Lee are just tenacious bastards. They're amongst the best at backing you against the cage and cutting you off. If you can stay within boxing distance, while circling away from that wheel kick, his options are limited. He can't spam leg kicks from that close. Dariush was having great success with this until he foolishly dived into that knee, even though he was soundly winning the stand up. Pettis, Green, Melendez, and Felder all tried to strike with him at range and got pieced the fuck up.

Someone said that he's a "top 10 fringe fighter, at best".

That could be true but it's only situational.

He might be ranked there, but he could beat number 1 on a given night. He's just too dangerous a striker.

Not sure who is in his training camp but getting high level TDD would help, though he did a good job in the later rounds stuffing Kevin.

He could be number 1 but he might be stuck on the outside looking in.

Edson can probably train rasslin like a mo fo, but he's not going to be better than guys like Kevin and khabib, who have been doing it since they were babies.

Randleman and Honda said it best when they were saying you can train with Olympians 24/7 and learn step by step how to do the moves but in real live scenarios, they still aren't going to be better than the Olympians.

Remember when everyone said Barboza had a weak chin? Let's be honest, he actually didn't get knock out cold on the varner fight.

I'm pretty sure trains with Frankie under Ricardo Almeida, and occasionally with Zabit whenever he's in town. He has the resources but he needs to change his style if he wants to reach that belt. He stands all the way upright, which kinds of negates his lateral movement. Ideally, he should switch to a wide karate/boxing stance when he's facing strong wrestlers with a high-pressure offense. But realistically, that would be extremely hard considering he's been knocking people dead with his legs for years. Edson won't be champ anytime soon but if you're not at least top-7 he destroys you.

for what?

losing yet again?

not doing anything with his opponent completely rocked?

the guy's a lamb. when was the last time he even won a fight?
i feel kinda bad saying it, cause he's always getting his ass kicked and that's gotta suck, but i'm sick of seeing a guy who always loses to top fighters constantly getting booked to fight top fighters. Edson "record pad" Barbosa.

edson should have finished lee, you dont put some one on that kind of black ice and then lose, its just not done at this level
