Dude, lets be real here. If Conor knocked out Mayweather, he would do both. He'd fulfill his UFC contract and likely box again for 50-75 million. If Mayweather wanted a rematch, he'd probably make 100-150 million.

he isn't staying in boxing because he's going to het his ass kicked

If Conor beat Floyd convincingly he'd pull in Floyd-type cash for any future boxing matches with any top tier boxer. The UFC would absolutely try to bank on that cash flow and the publicity behind the cross sport matchups.

Of course if Conor loses very convincingly/embarrassingly then the UFC will probably avoid these crossover matchups entirely going forward.

If he at least does decent against Floyd, he'll be a 2 sport athlete. Maybe even lean more toward boxing. There's just too much money involved.

Pacquiao wants a fight with Mayweather again but what if some astronomical event happens and Conor beats Floyd? Would a Pacquiao-McGregor fight make sense? Conor would be 1-0 in boxing with that 1 being a win over Mayweather. Could Conor use that as leverage to get lucrative fights against Pacquiao, Canelo, or Cotto?
In the latest MMA Hour interview with Ariel Helwani, Conor's coach John Kavanagh said that what primarily motivates Conor is a new challenge. If you look at Conor's recent history, which represents Conor having enough clout to choose his fights, it has been all about the challenge. Nate at 170, then the rematch at 170 because Conor lost the first one. FW championship. LW championship. Floyd. His last 5 fights, if you include the Floyd fight as a foregone conclusion, represent a new challenge, a new mountain to climb, a new milestone, a new land to conquer...whatever you want to call it. So, if he beats Floyd he will have beat the best, so therefore he'll have no desire to fight someone (Manny) whom Floyd has beaten. The question then is, what will be a new challenge for Conor. Answer - to become the WW champ of the UFC. OR, to fight a GOAT, a legend, of the UFC, and win. So that means Tyron or GSP, if the fight were booked now. If Demian Maia beats Tyron though, now THAT will be interesting to see if Conor steps up to THAT challenge, because you know that if Conor goes to the ground it's over.

I just don't think Conor goes back to MMA given the amount of money that could be generated from a win over Floyd. But I get what he's saying about the challenge. Just imagine if Conor beats Floyd and then wins the UFC WW title. He'd be a three weight champion in MMA and be Floyds only loss.

Yes, WW champ. That's what I meant. Not MW champ. Kavanagh pointed out that while Conor loves the money, it's the challenge that's the true motivator, not the money. He makes a totally believable case for that, for all you skeptics out there. Kavanagh also thinks that Conor will return to the UFC.
