Movies Pet Peeve: Trailers that give away the whole f------g movie

This kind of thing annoyed me until I read of research that showed empirically, that knowing the ending didn't spoil people's enjoyment of a thing.

It's just you think it does.
That's a lie.

Someone spoiled the crying game and then I didn't enjoy it at all.

If they didn't spoil it I'm sure I would've enjoyed every inch of that surprise
<{ohyeah}>

Bothers me too. Don't know where they got that information, but it sounds wrong.

Trailers for porn are really bad about this. It takes all of the mistique out of the triple anal creampie gangbang.

Someone else mentioned horror movies and I agree. Wife and I have a rule if we hear about a horror movie that might interest us we watch the trailer one time maybe two and that's it.

It’s usually a sign that it’s a shit film to begin with so I honestly don’t care

I think if you go back and watch trailers from like the 70s, it was arguably even worse. Some voice over/narration that explicates so much of the plot plus corresponding scenes that spoil critical elements.

I noticed that on the dvd for Hellraiser.

There’s a trailer for The Hills Have Eyes, and it’s basically the whole movie.

Always struck me how terrible of a trailer that was.

I said empirically dude.

Yup. About a week ago in the “What movies have you watched lately?” thread someone posted the trailer for Logan’s Run which came out in 1976 and its trailer spoiled EVERYTHING.

How many times do you normally watch a trailer?

Nah I meant if like a YouTube ad shows it I'll do my best to avoid looking at it. Especially a movie like scream, don't want any clues or anything. I know it's weird but I don't get how people breakdown trailers...takes the fun out.

Half the trailers I see these days there is no point in even watching the movie because the entire plot including the outcomes of all the supposed suspense or pressure of the film is revealed in the trailer.

I haven't been keeping tabs, because generally it just puts me off from the film, but I found a few to support my claim.
I am sure I am not the only one who has experienced this phenomenon.

I don't know if the film industry is trying to cater to a dumbed down audience that they expect to forget the trailer which most folks these days watch, literally immediately before watching the film (on streaming services)

Exhibit A

Exhibit B:

There was research done and it found out if people knew the story and even spoilers they were more likely to watch it. Sounds retarded to me.

I have 2 minds about this, both agree with you. On the one hand, trailers do have a bad habit of spoiling (but this is the thoughtless, impatient age we live in), and also some of these movies that are spoiled by random clips from the trailer weren't that well written to begin with.

I think the last trailer I watched was for Beacon 23, I downloaded but haven't watched it yet

But generally if a trailer catches my attention I will like the show, recent examples Midnight Mass, The Girl From St.Agnes, The Fall Of The House of Usher

I think it's a legitimate gripe for movies based on original content, especially comedy where they show the funniest bits/jokes in the trailer. But I think for movies based on well known subjects or people (Titanic, Napoleon, WW2, etc...) then it's not a big deal.
