Ocasio Cortez compares debating to catcalling, refuses to debate Ben Shapiro.

She'd be more loony to accept. The "Democratic Socialist" policies are difficult to defend, and she does not seem experienced enough to be put on the spot like that.

I don't know I feel for two people to have a debate they at least both need to have a soul. I wouldn't debate Boris Becker either.

Honestly, I'm not sure she's actually off base with this. Do you think Ben has good intentions? Did she in any way solicit a debate with him? Nope. He's some middlingly popular right wing media pundit who wants to debate an aspiring elected official, which she is in no way obligated to do, and apparently has no interest in. He's not even remotely entitled to debate her.

Personally, I'd prefer a response of "no thanks, not interested," but she's not responding in a way that doesn't capture the situation with a reasonable degree of accuracy. Let Ben go find another knothole to hump.

If I were her, I wouldn’t want to go out there and be made to look foolish if I were running for Congress either.

This chick can't even handle a softball interview with Cuomo

Obviously she is going to refuse she has an IQ just above 49 and has been outed as a complete agenda push who doesn't even understand her own socialist views. Also Shapiro is clown for even offering to donate to her campaign, the guy is another handpicked face for what the modern conservative is supposed to be.

I haven't seen anything from her which shows that she'd be good in a debate, whereas Shapiro has "Debating Club" stenciled on his pocket protectors.
At least with Shapiro you'd always know what his arguments were going to be, libertarian dogma down the line, except in those cases where it might conflict with his religious conservatism.

Ben Sharpio is just out to get her with one or two points that become soundbites later.
That his job as a political commentator. I would strongly advise against that. The same way I would do for a right-wing politician to do the same with a left-wing political commentator.

The problem is that she had to bring in the gender issue. That will put a lot of people off including myself.
Like you say she should have just politely declined and that's it.

Debating opposing views on important topics doesn't need qualifiers of "good intentions".

I wouldn’t say catcall but if Ben wants to debate a nominee for congress then run for congress.

I see no reason why she should or would accept a debate challenge from a YouTube personality.

debate him for what? she doesnt owe him anything

Except that I don't think he would've asked to debate a man in the same situation.
Like all rightwing media talking heads, he's a sexist pussy in addition to all his other shitty qualities.

I can agree with the inclusion of gender being a way of going about it that I don't agree with, but there is a frame of reference on the catcalling thing. There is - just to be clear - no claim of sexual intent on his part, but there is an implication of "I'm just doing my thing and this guy won't leave me alone." I think it could have been better worded, but the comparison does have a reasonable frame of reference. The inappropriateness of her response is there, but being wildly exaggerated.

It doesn't need it, but it can have it. Debates can be aimed at getting to the truth of a situation. For instance, if Shapiro wanted to debate, say, his buddy Jordan Peterson, I think the intention behind it would be quite good. In this case though? I think Snake captured it with his "soundbite" comment. My guess is that Ben wants to humiliate her - period. Honestly, he can probably do it too. She has declined - and that's that. If Ben wants to debate her, he should run for office and do it in some sort of established official capacity. The thing is, the guy comes off as about 80% as slimy as Ted Cruz. He ain't getting into office...

Didn't see it posted yet.

Shapiro offered 10k to her campaign or whatever to debate her, which she flat out refuses. Calls Shapiro debate challenge like "a catcall" and an "unsolicited challenge from men with bad intentions".

This lady is a loon lol
Oh man, that's embarrassing.

But seriously, she knows she's a lightweight and Ben Shapiro would mop the floor with her in a debate. She wants none of that.

funny how shapiro embodies a soyboy, a term right wingers love to use against the left
