As an aside to Benedict's defection, I don't really get people trying to make the argument that Leafs didn't get a lot better by his addition. I've seen the argument that they added 37 goals but lost 54 goals a number of times already. That has got to be the dumbest possible way of looking at the issue. It wasn't smart when Sweeney signed Beleskey, and it's not smart now. Players are getting promoted because of the loss of JVR, Kadri will outproduce Bozak in his role from last year, and Tavares will outproduce Kadri in turn, causing an overproduction from Marner (likely duo). I don't buy the ''leafs defence is weak'' argument either. None of them will ever win a Norris. Their offence can win a game 7-6 if push comes to shove. The rest of the time the defence just has to be ''good enough.'' Which hopefully they wont be.
