In interviews Nadal is saying he had to take injections in his foot because it was hurting him. It was numb and he had no feelings in his foot when he was playing.

Yeah he doesn't need to do so but this was his last best chance to get the Calender year Grand Slam , a year after Djokic blew it by not winning the US open last year . Nadal has separated himself from Roger and Novak but either way when all 3 are fully retired the era of the 3 greatest to ever do it ends and it will feel like a void is left because I don't know if we will ever get a trio like that ever again. They pretty much stopped each other from have 30 singles Grand Slams all told.
