Firstly, a sizable number of the most liberal cities are in red or purple states: cities like Atlanta, Miami, Kansas City, Minneapolis-St. Paul, Austin and Arlington, for example. Some are states that recently became blue, like Denver, but certainly have not been blue states (or even super liberal cities) for anywhere near the lengths of time you’re claiming. When education standards are gutted, when social assistance programs for low income people are slashed, when biased voter ID bills are passed, when inner city schools are underfunded—it’s not mayors doing those things, and it’s not Democrats either.

But secondly, and more importantly, is the systemic/institutional inequalities that exist—which Republicans are seemingly allergic to acknowledging. My question wasn't partisan at all, I was just making the point that some of these are real problems. Most MSM is shit and I'd include NYT, WSJ and NPR in that list. Reuters and AP seem fine and neutral to me.
