anyone who believes that is an idiot. MMA gloves are 4 ounces which means more power follows through the punches and leads to more KOs while boxers hide behind huge gloves and don’t get hit nearly as much. Not only do we see more KOs in mma, we see head kick KOs and knees which are far more devastating than just punches. In boxing you have the 10 count while in mma when your knocked down or out the fighter follows you to the ground with extra punches.

MMA is still a young sport so obviously we haven’t seen all the effects of CTE yet.

The 10-count alone makes MMA safer then boxing lmao. It has nothing to do with the gloves, which only exist to protect the person throwing the punch from breaking their hands. Just let me know when MMA develops a list like this and we can chat

Way to show your a noob LOL ... You can lose an MMA fight without taking one punch/strike... Boxing thats not an option LOL ..

Boxing is more dangerous because of it's rule set and the forcing of boxers to continue after basically being Koed or rocked badly ... nothing is worse for the brain then it trying to recover and being shut off again...its like turning a computer on and off rapidly eventually youll get the blue screen of death ..

Yeah a 10 count to a hurt fighter is much safer than getting knocked unconscious on the ground or punches while you’re already unconscious….

Boxers don’t get headkicked either

As and ex-boxer, I agree.

If you get knocked-down, and needed 10-count, then you have should have lost that fight.

Never understood the stupidity that.

Don't forget that MMA gives fighters more opportunities to defend themselves from taking punishment via grappling...

In boxing, if you try to clinch and hold on for dear life, any good referee will break it up quickly.

Cerebral hemorrhage seems more common in boxing. I did fear BSD would get some vs Zaleski but he seems to be doing okay.

Ehhhh. In MMA once you get to the point of being concussed the fight is usually (not always, granted) over or on the verge of being stopped.

In boxing you can get buzzed real bad, dropped, given a 10 count to get back up and then you have to take the next barrage of punches coming your way whilst already suffering a severe concussion.

We still have many years to go to understand just how MMA stacks up to boxing in terms of danger because the sport is still relatively new.

MMA has its bad case of CTE. Spencer Fisher, Gary Goodridge, Babalu, Baroni, Matt Hughes etc.

However that's a drop in the ocean compared to boxing. Look at most retired MMA fighters compared to retired boxers. So many boxing legends struggle to talk, they have the CTE lisp, slurred speech, can barely string a sentence together.

We have that in MMA too but as of now it's a lot more rare. Nam Phan, Chuck Liddell and Benson Henderson have some pretty slurred speech if you compare recent interviews and clips of them talking compared to videos of them from a decade ago, but it's not almost every legend like it is in boxing.

Finally, compare deaths in boxing to MMA. There are multiple deaths in boxing year after year. In all of MMA history you can probably count the amount of deaths on your fingers.

BOXERS don't get hit nearly as much..? lol

They get hit FAR more.

knockouts aren't necessarily the biggest contributor to cte. It's the sustained blows over a longer stretch of time, which includes sparring.

The padding is actually worse In this regard for cte because they can take a lot more shots. Plus the fights are longer and only take place on the feet.

You can also get knocked down several times, even knocked out, but the fight continues.

Obviously MMA leads to cte as well, but boxing wins here by a landslide.
