While I tend to agree (roughly), I very much suspect that Michael Jai Whites TaeKwondo training in the 80s in the US was just as watered down as it is today. It was already heavily commercialised by then.

Anybody living in the 80s -- Was Karate and TKD training stricter?

I don't believe him.

Bruh...they used to kill people in Karate dojos back in the 80s. Yeah...it's probably been watered down since then.

he needs to get better at it

on a serious note:
muay thai isn't watered down.
bbj isn't water down.

some traditional martial arts aren't watered down because they believe in the roots so much.
so him claiming this shit is just whack.

Is there a link?

Please add one or change the title so that it's not a misattribution.

It's from this interview:

The full one has been taken down on youtube but you might find it elsewhere

I don't think he was referring to them (Muay Thai and BJJ are rarely labelled traditional martial arts). More like: Judo, Karate, Taekwondo.

Well...it's a bit ironic, since sport arts like boxing, MT and wrestling have older roots than Judo and such.

But they aren't martial arts in the same way, with philosophy, a "sensei", etc. You know what I'm sayin.

It was only after ufc got popular that boxing and wrestling have been referred to as martial arts. If you asked a wrestler or boxer in the 60s if they were martial artists they probably would have said no. also queensbury rules were written in 1865, I wonder I how long the sport actually goes, as karate's roots are well before then.

When was the first formal instructions laid out for boxing? Was it with Jack Dempseys books?

"He is an accomplished martial artist, holding black belts in seven different styles: Shotokan, Taekwondo, Kobudo, Goju Ryu (for which he studied under Master Eddie Morales where he learned to sharpen his Goju karate technique), Tang Soo Do, Wushu and Kyokushin,[2][3] with a specific focus in Kyokushin (although his style incorporates aspects of many different martial arts forms).[4] White started training in the martial arts at the age of seven in Jujutsu and then Shotokan moving to other styles later.[5]"

I didn't ask if he's legit or not. Although it does rubb me the wrong way when he critizises boxers for telegraphing their punches (Kimbo Slice clip). Put him against a pro boxer and let's see him block their combos with his Karate. Just insulting.

That video is hands down one of the most disgusting I have ever seen.

And I have seen tons of depraved shit on the internet.

Any comments on Jai Whites views on boxers, you know the ones with the best fists in the world?

yeah unfortunately I've seen much worse than that :( not in a martial arts context though. That was disgusting no doubt.
