didnt even know this was the undercard.

Great cruiser weight match up. Both guys are coming off good wins. Both are undefeated.

Lomachenko, Usyk and Gvozdyk are all fighting this Saturday on HBO. All three train together and are 2012 Olympic teammates & medalists (Loma gold, Usyk gold, Gvozdyk bronze), though they don't all have the same trainers. Michael Hunter, Usyk's opponent, was also a 2012 Olympian. All of these guys bar Sosa were decorated amateurs.

The Lomachenko-Sosa bout will headline a three-bout HBO card.

The show will open with a cruiserweight encounter matching WBO champion Oleksandr Usyk -- a 2012 Olympic gold medalist making his second pro title defense -- and former U.S. Olympian Mike Hunter.

The 30-year-old Usyk has 10 KOs in 11 career victories and is slotted first at 200 pounds by the Independent World Boxing Rankings. Hunter, who’s 12-0 with eight stoppage wins, is slotted well below at No. 26 and has never faced a top-30 opponent.

“I want to have all four cruiserweight titles in the future,” Usyk said. “Any of the other titles holders I’m willing to face.”

The second bout, at light heavyweight, pits Ukrainian export Oleksandr Gvozdyk against Cuban-born Miami resident Yuniesky Gonzalez.

Gvozdyk is 12-0 as a pro and has won six straight by KO, while Gonzalez started his career with 14 straight wins and has now won two in a row -- both by first-round KOs -- since a two-fight losing skid.

“(Gonzalez) is strong, experienced, puts pressure on you, tries to drive you into the ropes,” said Gvozdyk, who’s ranked ninth by the IWBR compared to his foe at No. 48. “He’s a tough guy and I have to deal with him. I work hard every single day trying to be the best in my division.”

Lomachenko is an overwhelming main event favorite according to the numbers guys at the Bovada online sportsbook, where it’ll take a $2,500 wager to return a $100 profit on him, while a $100 outlay on Sosa would return a $1,000 windfall for an upset.

a guy that has been the sparring partner for three heavyweight champions is a +1400.

I don't know how I missed that this fight was scheduled. It's not a bad fight. Usyk was obviously the better amateur, but Hunter was pretty good in his own right. He hasn't been very active as a pro, but he looked alright against Thomas who isn't terrible opposition (granted, he's been inactive for almost a year after that win). You have to favour Usyk here, but it could get interesting (especially with Hunter somehow being over 10 to 1).

Hunter is raw, he's going to get taken to the woodshed.

Ukrainian showcase card.
They should do more nationalistic cards like this.
It makes it a more interesting event in my eyes.

I watched part of the final press conference. This is the first time 3 Ukrainian Olympic medalists will have ever been featured on HBO. I like the idea of nationalistic cards like this myself. I wouldn't be surprised if we saw an upset though, maybe Gvozdyk. The Cuban he's fighting, Gonzalez, I thought beat Pascal and Gvozdyk works so much that he leaves openings and has been dropped before. Hunter has a powerful right hand and a long reach to go with it.

Sosa is a blue collar fighter with lots of heart, grit and good power in either hand, especially his right. Not much of a jab though, he mostly just paws with it. I don't remember anyone giving him a chance against Fortuna but he came back in that fight and knocked him out in Beijing. He's strong as well but definitely needs a lot of polish. Lomachenko last I checked was a 25:1 favorite. I know a couple guys from the YTBC that are picking Sosa for the upset. He trains with Tevin Farmer who is a slick southpaw with very good defense and counter punching. He got good work in with him in sparring and Tevin's sparred Lomachenko many times. Tomorrow night will feature some good fights if Sosa, Hunter and Gonzalez show up to fight. Sosa is very hungry to spring what would be a huge upset but I'm not sure about the other two.

Forgot to mention that Usyk isn't with James Ali Bashir anymore after his last fight. The media reported that he fired him and went back to Anatoly Lomachenko, who coached him to his gold medal as an amateur at the 2012 Olympics. That's not correct either. It turns out that Usyk's new trainer is actually Russ Anber (Rival gear owner), David Lemieux's former trainer before he was fired after the Rubio fight. Usyk complained that his hands hurt during his last fight but Anber is the one that wrapped them, strangely enough. We'll have to see how he looks under Anber now over the course of his next 2-3 fights.

Usyk won the Olympic gold medal and Michael Hunter had the most embarrassing performance in the USA at the same Olympics

I've had my eye on this Usyk/Hunter fight. Usyk looks fantastic in there, but Hunter is definitely a good fighter. I like the step up, but you gotta imagine Usyk wins.

By the way Kov'sMB hypes up the Sosa fight, you'd think he WANTS to see the upset lol.

Don't know a lot about the 3rd fight.

Fucked up hair cut by a counrty mile.

Unless hunter rocks a fro.

Mike's a solid guy as it stands, and is clearly improving with time, plus he seems like a nice guy. Too bad they're throwing him in there with Lomachenko Lite just 12 fights into his career... Hopefully he doesn't get dominated.

i thought hunter lost to beterbiev in a close match. usyk then went on to beat beterbiev as an underdog
