hey if it wasn't for interim titles we wouldn't get khabib/ferguson being 5 rounds.
They can just make certain fights 5 rounds. If they decided that they would live up to their words, they could start calling some fights, like Khabib/Ferg, "guaranteed title contention" fights or something like that, and make all of those fights 5 rounds. The problem is, they say that a fight is for the next shot at a title, and then don't give the winner the next shot for the title. That would have to change.hey if it wasn't for interim titles we wouldn't get khabib/ferguson being 5 rounds.
But in the McUFC the interim belt was just an empty promise from Dana. Neither Aldo or Edgar were getting that fight. So we should go back to big fights being 3 rounders and Dana's super special promises of title shots that never come to fruition
5 rounds > 3 rounds
Interim title > Dana's super special promise
And wait a few more months to see the fight? Nah homieThey could have made it a fight night headline which would still be 5 rounds.
One could argue that mcTapper's belt means nothing. He beat no contenders, he skipped the line, and refuses to defend. Paper champ IMGO (in my GOAT opinion).Interim belts served a purpose once upon a time. In Conor's UFC, they don't mean anything. They're like replica belts.
I want interim belts for every fight on the main card of a ppv!
...and as a result Conor was stripped and Aldo is now the champion (no iterim tag), it served it's purposeBut in the McUFC the interim belt was just an empty promise from Dana. Neither Aldo or Edgar were getting that fight.
Makes the eventual Conor vs Khabib/Tony fight much bigger if its billed 'champion vs champion'. I'm all for these guys getting huge paydays, it only helps the sport in the end. They could have made it a fight night headline which would still be 5 rounds.
