Is modern kickboxing born through influence of K1?

I mean before K1 there was muay thai and full contact and low kick (international rules) kickboxing but nowadays standard for kickboxing anywhere in the world is with knees and some form of clinching. And in most gym it's practiced this way. Is this because of influence of K1?

Ya, I'd say so. For sure.
I ask because I myself train in kickboxing that have low kicks and knees but there is also japanese, american, dutch kickboxing but my is neither because I think it first started as american kickboxing gym I think (we are under WAKO) but later changed under influence of K1. I think this is how it's trained internationally at most cases. It's very confusing.
