Interim Titles Are Awesome

Aldo was told that the interim title was his path to a shot at Mcgregor for the real title and a chance at redemption. He didn't get it. He won the interim title and the nominal "champion" still wouldn't fight him.

" We’ll make Frankie and Jose the interim title. Whoever wins that fight will then fight Conor McGregor for the true 145-pound title."

"Win, lose or draw in this fight against Nate Diaz, he will go in and he will fight either Jose or Frankie, whoever wins at (UFC) 200."

Yes. He was able to skip a step in this process, and wound up with the real title instead, without even having to fight McGregor. Had he fought McGregor again, he would have another loss on his record, and be beltless.

If an interim belt tricks the guys into being active & fighting each other - I'm fine with it. Just wanna see the best fight the best, don't care who has the belt.

Yes, history has shown that rematches always go the same as the first fight.

Interim belts are #1 contender belts. Fighters like them because they are a far better guarantee of a title shot than some promise by Dana. Under generic UFC contracts, the title holder(Interim included), gets a ppv cut. UFC can use interim titles to get contenders to fight each other.

Interim belts would make sense if the interim champ were considered a defending champ if he/she were to win the title unification fight. But now they are pointless.

Ask Aldo about how "guaranteed" those title shots are for the interim champ.

You too fast Samson I came here to say exactly>
